Was pretty great. seen them once at the metro, and now at the Opera house.

Great band.

Great show, 2nd half was awesome.
It was multitracked so it might see the light of day sometime.

yeah, agreed, second half intro was wicked. its funny seeing them perform....just when u're locked onto a vibe they build, something chnages, and u catch it, and then realise it changes again, and on it goes.

loved the intro to the second set, it was great to hear so many percussion sounds coming out of 1 dude, sounded like a band on its own.

Yeah the necks are something else!
I saw them for the first time on studio 22 (abc) years ago late at night after coming home from a gig. They had already started and I wanted to find out who they were. I feel asleep waiting for the track to be back announced as they played for another 40minutes without a break.
Got a couple of albums, all are good and all are different.

I was was mixing a live 2 track reference of the show thinking the same thing.
You think you've got it all balanced and happening,
And then it starts to change and become something else.
The mix evolves along with the music.
As Tim Whitten who mixed the live show said "it's a about textures"

the most interesting thing i found about their music, is, while you listen, and i often wonder if this is intentional (it probably is)....

the band all use overtones to their advantage, in the midst of a really full on mix, i can sometimes hear high overtones from the dbl bass, or the scratching the drummer does on his snare, sounding like a flute, or something else.

madness.

I remember the drummer, Tony Buck telling me in their early days that they were sick of playing in bands with wanky soloists, so they formed a band where nobody solos.

Love The Necks. I've seen them a few times. The different textures they use and subtle changes they make through a 20 minute piece is damn near hypnotic . You think you're hearing one thing but then it overlaps into another...and then another. Great stuff!

Chris Abrahams played at our wedding.
During the entire service he improvised on two old organs at the same time for about 30 minutes as the sound track to the proceedings.

We recorded it but I've never actually listened to it. Hmm, I'll have to dig it out.

now that is an organist worth having at your wedding!
