Anyone here using Samplitude that wouldn't mind me picking their brain a bit about it?
Thanks.

I'm also interested to hear feedback - they were giving away time-bomb versions at Integrate - it looked a very interesting app - if I didn't already have PT and Wavelab I'd be very tempted.

I have PT, (and some others)... but I'm a bit over things.
At 10.0.1 I would occasionally lose audio from different tracks.. there were workarounds, and it was inconsistent, but c'mon... audio not playing for no good reason?
Now, with 10.1 they claimed to have fixed that issue, but in some projects that I open, creating new stereo tracks, audio or aux, will not produce any signal at all. There is something funky in the bus paths or something and it's pretty frustrating. With the latest one nothing will get audio going through the new tracks short of creating a new session and importing the audio from the old.. not useable.
I'll go back to 10.0.1 and just be watchful... but it's a bit of an ask for this to be happening and for avid to say be patient. 11 may be a better product if they finally rewrite all of the code.. we'll see.
In the meantime I'm going to hedge my bets and look for another option.

Yes, I stayed at PT 9.0.5 as it was stable and there were no features that I needed in v10. - same with Wavelab 7.2.596 - stable and fast at this version and does everything I need ITB.
But when PT11 / Wavelab 8 come out I'll probably move to something like Samplitude for an "all-in-one" experience and to save some $s.

Hi Danny
In terms of digital formats, we ran Samplitude exclusively for approximately the first three years or so here at Head Gap. We really enjoyed the program, and as an editing tool come mix down, it really excels. In the end, as we added additional I/O, we ran into problems getting Samp to lock consistently to our Lynx Auroras. We had lengthly forum dialogue with both the Samp crew and the Lynx team to get things resolved, but it never happened.
As Head Gap grew and we had an increasing amount of freelance engineers coming through, the demand for PT became obvious and we jumped ship. We still use Samp occasionally, but not as our main digital tracking or mix set up.
I think Samp is still kinda big in the mastering world, maybe?
Hope that helps, happy to answer any other questions.

That's sort of what got me going again in this direction. I had started looking at Sequoia and Samplitude a number of months back, but got caught up in life..
I went to work on my i7 box that has been plaguing me forever.. figured out it was a bad NIC.. sorted that and D/L'ed the ProX trial. I'll give it a go for the month and see how I feel.

One that I get quite regularly is output buses being disabled. Closing the session and re-opening the session fixes it. Only happens after launching PT.

I don't understand why they introduced output buses anyway. Output buses and internal buses still appear as separate "categories" in the output path selector. So what does it matter if one assigns directly to a path? I liked it when the difference was explicit anyway.
Occasionally importing I/O settings or tracks from another session causes doubling of paths with things like A1 and A1.1. Only one of them seems to work anyway!
Can anyone provide a use case for output buses?

Can't be that... they've been laying them all off and going to Ukrainian contractors for the last four years..

Yes - offshoring - something I really hate is seeing our jobs go to india, china - didn't know about the Ukraine but there's another one. Lots more I'd like to say, but it's getting too political so I'll stop there.
I read most of the review of Samplitude last night - the OO approach is very good imo. It's a highly featured app.

It's actually quite a decent prog... though I'm essentially a knob at using it.. I'll give it a bit of time each day and see how far I get. I've been using Mac for so long I'm still re-learning how to get around the PC..
I like it though. I'll try some editing on it and see how that goes.

Hi Al
I read in the review that it's "not so good" for looping - any thoughts?
Could you share how it works with various ADACs?
thanks

I think there are a few overly complicated looping functions in there somewhere but for me, I Just copy and paste. The full on object based editing makes this the easiest way.
As for ADAC's, you mean converters right? I've been using the M-Audio Profire 2626 with 2 extra be!@#$%^& ADA8000's and an old DAT machine on the SPDIF input and it all works as it should, very reliably. I've never used any other converters with Samplitude.
For me the ability to record, mix and master all in one program is amazing. Samplitude has great internal plugins and features that really suit me. It also has lots of fluff that i never use but maybe will one day. As with all DAWs its mostly great but there are some head scratchingly dumb things as well. The Hybrid audio engine is great (using lots of plugins while tracking with low latency) and so is object based editing. On the other hand the setup for inserting hardware compressors and eqs into a mix project is pretty bad. Again its overly complicated and the latency pings never work properly which is a shame but I mix 100% in the box anyway.

I mainly just used it for compiling/mastering cd's, is great at that, never used it much for mixing. I always preffered cubase over anything else.

thanks Al - just what I needed to hear,
I do a fair bit of section looping (in PT) whilst overdubbing and don't use any plug-ins so I don't think Samplitude is for me.

Thanks again Gents!.. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and pull my HD|N card and put it into the PC and see how that goes... I'm thinking that even if I migrate away from PT I can keep the card/HD I/O for an interface.. the sound/conversion is really good. I'm looking forward to seeing how the latency goes with the Avid stuff and Samplitude. (though I did find the comment about setting up outboard gear a tad disheartening).
It's a different approach than I'm used to.. but I need to pick up something else. The comping process seems a bit sideways to me as well, but in the end better than PT... I suppose it will be a matter of me just putting in time with it and learning the shortcuts I'll need.
btw.. I was watching a youtube Kraznet video on looping in 11 pro and it looked pretty nice.. and easy. Highlight a section, a mouse-click (or two), and drag to desired length... smooth as. I might give it a try tonight.
