Man, I don't watch those kind of shows, but isn't this pretty good?
I'm actually glued to the TV watching this thing...I dunno, am i going nuts,...What do people reckon?
And what about "One" by the coaches...phiewwww

haha I'm in the same boat dude. I was like "oh no thanks, I hate those idol shows"... but I can't stop watching this one

if you can stand that piece of shit fake punk mf*ker, and the rest of the fake judge circus... it's pretty good, the vocalists sing fairly good, but i've seen on every show, 2-3 singers that rip shit up, not get chosen, for me, this kills it pretty fast...

not everyone can get chosen....I do agree that there were some pretty tight performances that didn't make it, although,like you said, the ones that are there are pretty good.
Judges... although I did say to my wife "I wish that d'head swallows that toothpick",
much more "chewable" than the rest of the crap you see on those kind of shows.

Is that the one that Seal is on? I was really surprised to see someone of his talent here in Oz for that.

The talent on stage is usually OK, but the judges just simply prevent me from watching.

I will always remember his curious performance at the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert. He sang the entire song drastically out of tune. Apparently on the DVD release they dubbed in a rehearsal version.

Talent should emerge from the live scene or the recording studio, not by audience vote and back stories about a fight with weight gain or a sister's battle with cancer.
Reality tv, yes, part of the music industry, no thanks.

I'll admit I also liked "Prayer For the Dying". I'm sure it's on YouTube somewhere.

As far as the Voice, I lasted nearly three minutes before deciding that watching a blank screen would be better.

The only time I ever saw Australian Idiot I watched some teenage girl singing "Tried to make me go to rehab" while trying to channel that "hard-core street cred" previously exhibited by Tina Arena on YTT circa 1985.

you know i actually know 70-80 % of the faces i am seeing on the voice albiet the judges the talent or the band .. even a bunch the audience members are familiar faces .. so its not quite as contrived and out of touch as idol
.. well maybe more contrived given the money push to get the ratings .. but the talent pool is way way deeper then i have seen on a tv show

i didnt really like the battle format i saw last night , the chair thing on the blind auditions was better
but really with that many people who are the real deal involved .. if it ends up a car crash .. its a car crash i was watching and a bunch of good people got paid to be involved in

getting paid or exposed in this business is a moving target ,
looks like the music business is show business on tv again this year ..
we will live ..
most of those singers will go back to what they were doing before the voice with little damage and maybe a bit of gain

IDOL actually was a death stamp for lots of artists i know who appeared on it ..
I hope this run of tv land is kinder to the people it uses for the "phone in revenue" that is surely coming

Zappa... hmmm, yes I'm vaguely familiar with him.

This may be due to my collection of 72 of his CDs, every commercial video/DVD ever produced and half a dozen bootleg concert videos. Not to mention five books by/about him... me, obsessed? Nah.

I also foolishly attempt to play his stuff every now and then...

Here we have the biggest thread steal ever.

I have about half of Frank's official releases on CD + the vid of "Does Humour Belong in Music" and a couple of others, and some books and a t-shirt. My Mrs and I went to L.A. 20 years ago - we were going to knock on his door and kowtoh , but sadly he passed away a few weeks before we left.

When we were in San Franny we got a boxed set called "Beat the Boots" that has 8 "official bootleg" CDs, a book and a FZ beret. I believe it's a rare collection .....

Love FZ - a rare combination of composer and improvising artist.

Geez..If anyone that's ever done good in any of these comps, who had one of those things happen to them, (which sureely wouldn't be the ONLY reason for doing well in the first place) reads that, they would feel pretty horrible, don't you think. C'mon man.
If someone proves themselves to be a great artist/vocalist/drummer/dancer , who gives a FF how they got there.
You think none of those people on the show have never been in a studio or sang live??
And even if they haven't and they can sing...good on 'em.

Exactly.
If they have hundreds of people auditioning to choose from, they want to have a good mix of genuine talent, plus people that will keep the viewers who don't understand music tuning in every week. Either tugging at the heart strings, or kicking up fake controversy.
I saw a bunch of promos for Australia's Got Talent last week featuring the guitarist/singer who gave Brian McFadden the flick. They aired that promo dozens of times just to get viewers tuning in to see if he could recover.
The tv companies LOVE this. And it fills page after page of the supermarket magazines.

Sadly if it was just about good singing the ratings would be much lower.

Not sure if you've read the opening post, but I said I never watch these kind of shows but The Voice was quite interesting to me. Didin't mention Idol, Talent or any other ones.
I know which promo Chris is talking about for The Talent show and it's just appauling how fake those kind of fights/niggles between contestants/judges are.
However, I still haven't seen much of that on the Voice, and doubt that it'll happen as it looks like quite well produced show, comparing to all the rest of the crap that's been on TV.
And no...never really cared for any of those shows that Kyle, Dani, Brian, Natalie Embruglia, etc...were on, so haven't got an opinion on the backstage behaviour.
BTW, that Ricky Lee chick has lost half her body weight...She not half bad now...

somehow, I've been distracted by this show as well. Largely due to the missus dialling it in making it hard to escape from.
I just saw and heard two girls doing Prince's Purple Rain. So as a point of reference I immediately went and grabbed the LP and bunged the original on the turntable.

Yeah taht was pretty much me last night with some of the stuff being sang....Actually just seen a bit of "consultation with the mentor" Delta-Darren and that looked a bit lame/ordinary/fake.

It should be called "The Belt" ... pushing chest voice into craters on the moon because of mentors selecting hideously inappropriate songs...

We struggled through an hour of this show last night - to be able to make an "informed comment". I can get over the posturing etc that goes with t.v. shows - it's part of the theatre... but I found it a bit sad to see the "losers" get sent off.

But I guess the people who go in these things are the personality type who have to "be seen" - and assume their egos can live with the highs and lows.

Modern times = brutal.
In the old days you fronted a band, and if you weren't that good no one came to your gigs except family and hardcore friends. After a few weeks or months getting nowhere, you drifted off into some other hobby.
None of this made it to prime time tv, the entrails being raked over by a wide selection of the Aussie public.
I haven't watched The Voice, but it seems a tad more high brow than X-factor/Got Talent, but it still reminds me more of the Roman Coliseum than the local RSL.
