OK, the wife's birthday is coming up and I'm going to get her her very own pair of quality recording headphones (like most women, she's a bit finicky about wearing anything someone else has worn).

She's got a lovely voice but is not the most powerful singer, so minimal bleed is a preference.

Budget to $500. Suggestions?

closed capsule headphone is best obviously...to prevent bleed. I like my Audio Technica ATm-50s.

For a closed headphone the Beyer are hard to beat.
The DT770 is closed and the DT 990 is semi open.

Has anyone ever used Ultrasones?

Beyers are nice. their padding is really soft and doesnt touch the ear cartlidge, which is obviouslyt important for long sessions. My Audio technicas make my ears pretty sore after 3 hrs.

What about ultimate ears or the like. I use a few different session players who use them, they prefer them to headphones because they are so light and their ears aren't enclosed. Great for the ipod and air travel as well..

velour earpads good for longer sessions but spill a bit
beyers have that on some models, i.e dt250.

theyre kinda mid-rangey sounding though but great stereo.

Hmmm, a custom fitted pair of those would be ideal.

Is there an Australian distributor? The Logitech website lists 3 in NZ but none in Australia.

Excellence in Hearing, on George St, Sydney. Speak to them about custom moulded earpiece/monitoring. Dont have the number on me sorry.
