i'd like to get 2 X 4041 Audiotechnica mics as part of an ambient recording set up....

with them i'd like to get this AEA stereo bar/protractor:

These would be hoisted on a rycote boom pole, etc.

does anyone know of any windshields which can fit an XY configue like this?? Or maybe i'm going about this the wrong way, any help would be sweet!

or an in-front mesh style windshield? - you can make one of these with a length of wire, a drum and a pair of stockings.....

nah, i have one of those, theyt're for recording indoors.

The windshields are to stop wind noise. Something like this:

The ones i see at the moment are mostlyt for shotgun mics, i want something for a stereo/XY portable location rig.

I think a better way is to buy a dedicated stereo mic eg the sure VP88 No mucking about trying to lug 2 mics and keeping them in a consistent position for stable stereo etc. and the easily fit into the rycote zeppelyn.....and they sound great as a drum overhead or out the front of a big band. Sale price in the US at the moment $795

yeah, they do, but i'd want them covered though. just for a bit extra protection.

Chris, yeah i've looked at stereo mics... Those AT mics come very recommended for nature recording. really low noise, and very accurate sounding, for the price too. as well as an extra 45 dB in terms of max SPL which is handy for unexpected sounds.... I know the stereo mics fit straight into the rycote solutions, was more interested to see if there were options which allowed u to use the mics of your choice....

Just looking and thinking at the moment.

The Shure vp88 is probably too big and heavy for you.
This AT has simliar specs to the 4041s and would fit in a Rycote easily (and don't forget to look at the Rode windscreens)

Then there is always the Sennheiser 418S shotgun. An MS mic that could double nicely as a mono boom.
