Howdy all.
Any recommendations for who to send a U87 to for repairs?
Cheers

Gunter Wagner.
Tony Woodhouse at Amber Technology used to repair them too when they were the distributor. Not sure if he still does.

Yep, no-one else on the planet but Gunter.

As long as you don't tell him you are a Chelsea fan, I'm sure he won't scrape "Bayern" into your gold sputtering!

And - If he can't get it done prior to going OS, wait.

when a mic is "fixed up" by gunter, klaus, ben...etc

what is the things they do?

I have a vintage KM84...its the only one I have ever heard...so I have no frame of reference, personally.

Its from 1979 according to the serial number ( i contacted neumann)

what would they do to my mic? change caps?

cheers

Peter

I had Gunter modify my U87 to increase the headroom & also the top end a little. I'm not sure what parts he changed, but I was after improved performance in recording vocals & guitar amps & he acheived that. And it still sounds like a U87!

Agreed, Ben Sneesby is also very good, but he is out of the country at the moment. I think he gets back mid June or so.

Good point Glen, sometimes repairers try to make them "better" and can
change the inherent signature tone of the mic.

Good luck Matt.
