I was wondering, what you guys are doing for high count non pci/pcie high count analog I/O.

eg, firewire or USB type solutions for I/O counts of 24 to 32.

My point being, I am iMac based atm, so Firewire or USB2 .

I see plenty of interfaces from rme, motu etc that have FW and or USB and 8 analog I/O and 2 adat expansion ports.

I am thinking 24 to 32 channel mixer, and running a few aux's back in for effects (say either 16 or 24 tracks at mix down, with the remaining I/O for aux's)

any thoughts

You prob. know I'm fond of my DM4800 - I was reading on another infamous forum that a guy got one (with meterbridge and extra I/O cards) for under $3K.... you get 24 analog I/O, inbuilt 96K convertors and 24 I/O over f/w - works fine with a MBP (firewire over thunderbolt).

Ive got a M Audio profire lightbridge for sale if you want it.
Firewire connection.
32 in 32 out with lightpipe - cheap way to get i/o
unused still new.
$300

I use a profire lightbridge with a PC with no problems. Just bear in mind that the 32I/O on it are adat lightpipe and you will still need AD/DA converters.

I've been waiting to get more info about this unit, but no word yet. Would be a great way to use my SSL's with the MBP

I dunno if I could go the all in one digital console thing again. I promised my wallet never to buy into that format again. I am really looking at something to bridge and analog console to Logic and back.

Hi Peter,

I can see why you want that config - I had 3 x Delta 1010s (sync'd) connecting an analog desk to a PC (24 I/O) but reached the limit of it's performance and started getting too many clicks/pops....

An M-Audio 2626 is another option that will give you 8 I/O over f/w + ADAT daisy chain will give you another 8 at 44.1 - I think the Lightpipe unit lets you daisy chain more devices, but ADAT I/O halves each time you double the sample rate - a vicious circle.

RME Fireface is similar to above .....

Perhaps the Allen and Heath ICE 16 I mentioned in another thread?
