Little weekend score...

My less than 8 month old Mac is collapsing into a series of kernel panics and crashing the computer, whilst my Lynx is forgetting how to clock itself, and I'm running late on delivering a few mixes... but I did manage to get a bit of vintage Australian audio gear over the weekend.

Thought some of you might like this, original manual on the AWA in great condition too. Rola's full of Mullard, Miniwatt and Telefunken tubes too. Bet the Mac and Lynx won't look this cool in their 60's!

ah great!

I have one of those AWA's too.
great clunk factor on the rotaries, but that probably about it.
any idea what you could ever use it for?

Unfortunately for it, it's probably gonna get parted out. I assume it's got a nice 600:600 AWA or Trimax output transformer in it, and the meter looks great too.

I might just build a preamp inside it? I assume the attenuation circuit is pretty good, so a good tube amp and 48v might be all it really needs?

May not be worth too much effort on the gain measuring attenuator. They're a passive box with a 1:2 600 ohm input transformer then a bunch of constant impedance balanced H pads. They were used in broadcast land for setting up limiters and gain stages. Check out any manual for a BIG-1 or a G58 AWA and you'll find reference there. They have no output transformer and the meter does not have "audio"ballistics. They were usually used on steady tones to accurately set up the limit points on the final transmission limiter. That said , they are an excellent 600 ohm balanced precision attenuator

mmm what is your lynx doing?

im trying to track down a click/pop issue. i thaught it was clocking, or the tools card/s or the mac, or the avocet digital ins.....

i replaced the mac/tools system and the pop/click changed.. less often not gone.

i changed the clock master, master slave etc etc.... still there.. i have enough bits to replace everything so i will get there in the end, but what is your issue?

thanks damien.

Thanks Alastair- you might have saved me a bit of time trying to force things into something they are not!
If nothing else I guess it might help me calibrate my comps.

Damien- for some reason all of a sudden my Lynx is doing the classic clocking problem thing- small clicks and distortion, then moving into really thick distortion. Resetting the MIDI seems to fix it for a short while- I think Logic is sending some strange messages down the MIDI bus, which is only really for updating the firmware so stuff is getting weird.
I haven't noticed it in anything other than Logic, and apparently Lynx reckons Logic has some issues with MIDI setup.

Hey guys,

If you're having any trouble with your Lynx have a look here:

http://www.lynxstudio.com/forum/forum_t ... port-forum

Make sure you've got the latest lynx mixer and driver, and of course firmware for the unit.
Plus the main techs and designers will usually address any problem individually for you!
Always had a lot of success with Lynx support.
