Hi guys,

Has anyone ever had any luck finding fiberglass insulation that is rigid enough to use as a broadband/midrange absorber without a timber frame in australia?

Primacoustic make a product called the broadway which is just a piece of dense insulation wrapped in a breathable material, but I haven't come across any insulation nearly as dense with the usual local suspects. Everything I've found is not dense enough to support itself, if you know what I mean?

Any leads would be much appreciated.

Been thinking about this too.

Pretty sure if you got some 100mm acoustisorb 3 which is fairly dense (48 kg/m3), wrapped and stapled it in some fabric, you could probably hang it with some 3m hooks.

I've got some 50mm acoustisorb 3 sitting around if you want to check it out.

Where did you get the acoustisorb 3?

not sure actually, it was the project manager who organised all the purchases.

I'm sure you could get it from bunnings. Or just give tontine a call.
There is also fletcher insulation who make a bunch of spun glass kind of things. But I think acoustisorb is probably better to work with as it's more of a fibre and wont irritate and become airborne as easily.

pretty sure you can buy acoustisorb 3 100mm in 1.2mx2.4m sheets, pack of 3 ~ $200
Don't quote me on that but, and also if you are buying some let me know and I'll jump in too.

(I've got some spare nylon breathable fabric too if you want to have a covering / stapling session)

The Polymax HD stuff is (apparently) even stiffer than Acoustisorb 3 and is self-supporting.

This is probably what you're looking for, 25mm thick, self supporting and has a density of 130kg/m3.

Mount it off the wall so that it has an air gap of 75-100mm behind it and that will greatly improve the low frequency absorption coefficient.

I haven't used it for a long time but when we were using we sourced it from Patnicar Insulation, they always seem to give the best price. I think they're located in Leumeah and they deliver. 1800 684 645

It's sold 2 to a bag... I don't think you can buy a single sheet.

Make sure you wear gloves, long sleeves and a face mask when handling it.

Another alternative is Acousti-Panel from Tontine.

At this density, aren't you in danger of moving away from "absorbent" to "reflective"?

i thought the butter zone was 50-70 kg/m3... but please, someone correct me if i'm way off there?
