Kiss my poodles donkey

Hey Chris,
I was down at this strange rehearsal space in St Kilda where a lot of the grungier local bands rehearse in an old foundry vault to check out this band I'm going to do some recording with. The drummer mentioned he had seen something about the girl drummer underwater at MONA, and I mentioned you were doing it. The guitarist piped up and said "Is that Chris Townend from Kiss my poodles donkey!? I loved that band!" Then went on for a ages about you guys.
So in scary dark weird looking rehearsal space in St Kilda this arvo down a laneway just off where all the hookers hang out, it was Chris Townend appreciation time...

I nearly choked on my beer when I saw this post!
Thanks Andy - ahhh what can I say .....it was a really good band live, all the songs were written on an Ensonique EPS (1.5 seconds sampling time) and an Atari 1040 computer playing the sampler via midi - and the band played along with it. I was obsessed at the time with coming up with songs on a Nylon string guitar played back on a keyboard at half speed or more, so I'd record these insanely fast rhythm parts on the nylon - then slow it down 1 or 2 octaves and play these sampled riffs (now low freq bass grooves) as the basis of the groove - It had a massive sound live with enormous slowed down slow back grooves underneath the band playing pushy double or triple time on top...fun times
The stuff we used to do with so little..
Good memories of Big Day Outs, international tours..
...and KMPD used the win the best and worst band names in polls - and I still haven't made up my mind either..
That's all I can muster on the subject.
Back to my beer...
the laneway - rehearsal room - the hookers - the scene is perfect.

I saw the donkey a quite few times in the late eightys.
I'll vouch for Chris, they were an amazing live act with an big sound compared to what was going on at the time, kinda scary but also funny.
I have found memories of a KMPD gig at the Lansdowne with another great band called Vrag.

Not as long ago as you might think, Chris, must have been early nineties, not late eighties - although being in the band, you'd know best :D

Also, Vrag = Machine Gun Fellatio!

Future/ past 80/90s/2012

I seem to remember cutting a record for
The tin lids ( Barnseys toddlers - now full growns)
During the day and walking into the evil star
Late the same night into the assault of a certain
Poodles donkey

Pretty sure I went to bed that day
wondering just how my life turned out as it did

Living the dream I tell you

Aw man, The Evil Star!
Kids now don't know how far deep underground the underground used to be. You had to really want to find it, and have nerves of steel!

I saw a Jello Biafra spoken word show last night. As part of his show he reads out a collection of band names that he has discovered over the years that he loved because they were either bizarre, funny, gross or wildly inappropriate (or appropriate, as he may judge).

Kiss My Poodles Donkey and Lubricated Goat made the list. Nice one! :p

I do remember seeing a band called " Jeffery, Jeffery, Hysterectomy" in the 80's up at the San Miquell Inn at Cammeray.
Other great names I remember were
The Slugfuckers
The Fish John West Rejected

KMPD , MGF, Lubricated Goats ..... Great names
Who remembers seeing the Lubricated Goats playing (totally nude) on Andrew Denton's "The Money or the Gun" in November '88 in his program about censorship ?

Two names suggestions for an all-female group - which they didn't take up on:'

Things of Stone and Tupperware

Not micro but waving

Not sure where I watched it, but there is a short doco about the behind the scenes politics leading up to that Lubricated Goat performance. Imagine if that happened on TV nowadays...

I'll never forget standing at a bar in Darlinghurst, when the band (The Goat) during the show offers anyone who takes their pants off free beer.
So there was this circular bar, 3 out of 10 guys standing at the bar with no pants on, women walking around the bar perving, while Lubricated Goat played on.
Great live band (with shared members of Kiss My Poodles Donkey).
Fun times, people went out to see bands in those days. lots of venue's too.
In the raw!
