PT 9 & 9 HD. I'm lost in an avid spiral

Postby dave01.cooper » Fri Jan 18, 2013 7:59 am

Hey guys,

I'm stuck in a conflicting forum reading shit fight (predominatley gearslutz) and need some clarification from the brains trust! Please could someone confirm or dismiss the below?

- PT 9 software has both 9 & 9 HD in the same install file but only activates one or the other depending on what ilok license you insert
- PT 9 HD without any 'HD' hardware (avid HD IO, lynx with LT HD, apogee symphony with HD out etc etc) is exactly the same as running PT 9 but with production toolkit 2 which gives you surround mixing, different video import platforms, multiple videos in the one session etc etc
- running PT 9 HD with HD hardware gives you heat, TDM plugins, sync IO capabilities, hardware comp delay & a few added extras

Thanks y'all
Dave Cooper

Hi Dave,

I have some answers:

1/PT 9 software has both 9 & 9 HD in the same install file but only activates one or the other depending on what ilok license you insert
Confirmed - I installed PT9HD and iLok in my MBP - when it boots it shows the PT9HD screen.

2/ PT 9 HD without any 'HD' hardware (avid HD IO, lynx with LT HD, apogee symphony with HD out etc etc) is exactly the same as running PT 9 but with production toolkit 2 which gives you surround mixing, different video import platforms, multiple videos in the one session etc etc
Confirmed - surround and the CPTK components are all functional on my MBP using DM4800 as the convertor and console.

3/ running PT 9 HD with HD hardware gives you heat, TDM plugins, sync IO capabilities, hardware comp delay & a few added extras
No idea......

Awesome - thanks Ian.
Do the surround capabilities do 5.1 & 7.1? & do some of the digi plugins automatically compensate for the extra channels & switch from stereo to 5.1 etc or need to physically buy new plugs to work in this land?

Cheers

Hi Dave,

Now you're gettin' all technical on me :-ss ..... I think it goes up to 7.1 .... and I think certain plugs may support surround and others not

- the other guys here would know far more than me on this (I use PT just as a multitrack and don't use any plugs.....)

cheers

PT9HD install will run both PT9 & PT9HD but a PT9 install will only run PT9 & not PT9HD.
PT9 runs at 64 Bit floating point.
PT9HD or any HD software version runs at 48 Bit fixed on accell TDM hardware.
PT10 runs 64 bit float but PT10HD is still 48 bit fixed on accel TDM hardware.
You will get 64 bit float using PT10HD on the new Native & HDX cards.

Plenty of info on the DUC forum.
