Syncing two protools systems (HD & LE)

Hi all.
I'm wanting to set up my spare PTLE v7.4 + 002 rig to print mixes to while my HD v8 rig handles most of the work. I'm summing 16 channels so I'm coming out of the box and going back in anyway.

What's the best way to sync the two rigs together?
HD is on a MacPro and LE is on my MacBook Pro however I don't have a SYNC I/O. I would want it to be timecoded and transport controlled off the main machine. I was thinking Midi MMC & MTC could work but when I've done some some live records in the past with two Ta@#$% X48s I seem to recall the Midi TC being unstable and drifting...
Guessing I would need a Sync IO for the HD rig and then try MMC/MTC through the 002s onboard Midi ports?

I remember seeing Avid posting a few years ago that you could set up an LE rig with a video track and have 'sample-accurate' sync to an HD rig to keep the video from holding up CPU power on the HD system. I'm not sure where I saw it or how long ago exactly...

Any other suggestions, fire away.
Cheers

What you want is sample accurate sync, so why not use a word clock connection?

Transport is trickier; I too have had issues with MMC, but who knows... it might work. If worst comes to worst, maybe you can do a "2-pop".

Thanks for your input David.
I normally run my sessions at 96k but would like to print mixes at various sample rates/bit depths: 16/44.1, 24/48, 24/96. I'm not sure how I would do sample rate conversion between the different rigs if one is 96 and the other at 44.1. I was just going to keep them separate but share timecode & machine control.
If what I'm trying to do is kind of pointless and more hassle than it's worth, I won't worry about it.......

hey nathan
if you are printing mixes, why do you need to sync the systems?

its exactly what we do here
HD running the multitracks
and LE on a second machine that we print to.

you never used to sync the dat machine (or whatever 2 track) to the 24 track.
know what i mean?

or are you actually trying to do something else and ive missed your point?

Surely u don't want to print mixes through the 002 rack?

hey gareth
yes that's exactly what I'm wanting to do and you make a valid point regarding the sync, just hit go on both machines at the same time.

mark don't worry I'm not using the 002 converters. I'm using a Burl ADC for the 2buss which also currently clocks the auroras making it sound a bit wider and much deeper, to my ears anyway.

i'm thinking at this stage i'll just stay with using the single HD rig...

exactly! just hit go!
no need for any kind of accurate sync
a 2 track mix is a totally separate and different thing to your multitrack, and not really related in any (time) way

all of the mixes i have ever delivered to rick have been from my 2 track machine, not synced in any way to the multitrack one...
