but I do like the people I've met through here and this would work very well for someone trying to build up their gear list > reason is you could buy gear before tax, ie, reducing your taxable income, as there can be considered to be some crossover

Job is for a full time telecoms technician, installing telephone/internet/tv points as well as overhead cabling to power poles - connecting to the network. Occasional home theater installations

Here's what I need:
- must be Melbourne based, ideally East or North. Not regional
- mid twenties, reasonably fit
- good attitude, up for a challenge and learning something new
- don't mind getting their hands dirty, working outdoors, comfortable with heights
- willing to commit three years to me

I have three positions to fill, two of which look taken but I've got no guarantees as of yet

Any relevant experience would be good but not necessary, training will be running through March and work begins in April.

but just reading that now, I get it but it has to work both ways doesn't it? I mean, forcing an employer to not 'discriminate' if that's what you call it... I'd need to make the right choice for my business, and isn't it completely reasonable that I make the call on how to grow my company best? Wouldn't forcing me to do otherwise be really unfair ? poo is what I say

As someone who has hired people, never underestimate the willingness of some people to lodge complaints for the most ridiculous of reasons. This one carries a potential prison sentence, believe it or not.

I was involved in a case a few years back which is why I know the legislation so well. I wouldn't wish that amount of hassle involved on anyone else, trust me

You can't win against Australia's crazy IR laws. You want someone young and fit to be able to do the job effectively and safely because it's the logical thing to do. But you face fines for trying to hire the correct person or the job. If you hire a 60 year old and they hurt themselves due to the physicality of the task then you are a bad employer and work cover comes down on you. That's how we finish up with tiny 120 lb police officers who can't really do their job properly and have to use tasers for every situation.

tasers or their pistols...shoot first ask questions later. The number of people shot by police in Vicco over the past 15 years is criminal.....especially the young 15 year old from inner Melbourne a few years ago.....

actually the whole regulation and fine thing is getting way out of hand here, where our personal freedoms are being severely eroded. On Christmas day we wanted a bbq at sorrento park and there was a complete ban on alcahol outdoors....not even a beer during the bbq was allowed...sighns up around the perimiter of the park and the main roads in........ so we went to the back beach for our bbbq instead, it was still illegal but the police and council orifices where not as thick on the ground there!

I do so miss the beaches down there, St Johns Wood and Rye and sorrento back beaches being a personal fave...

I think you are free to employ whoever you like and can pick a 25 year old over a 60 year old. You just can't put that in an ad as a criteria.

Yes, It's an amazing coastline! Have you done the jump off the rock at St John's Wood? It's a favorite of my younger boys.....and just up the road at Central Av is my favorite wave. I'm a kneeboarder and there is a small local kneeboard crew that regularly surf the break.

I remember watching the kids do it 8)

I remember laying on the beach there, with my wife, when my daughter first started school and we were alone again for one of the first times.....

Was a gorgeous , beautiful blue sky, the ocean was just sparkling like a childs eyes on Xmas morning.

Would have been perfect....









If I left the wife at home.
