Not sure if anyone else is into film scores, but I'm a bit cranky at this year.
So Thomas Newman, the most influential composer of the last 20 years loses out yet again.
Meanwhile Mychael Danna wins the Oscar for a film score which may as well have been written by Newman, judging by its use of every Newman trademark.
OK rant over, Yeah, yeah, first world problems and all that.

I was glad the Oscar went to that Anne Hathaway.
Her song and performance in les miserables , actually moved me to tears in the cinema...

lol man, didnt best picture go to Argo? That is the biggest piece of shit film i've seen in a long time, i nearly walked out of it 3 times...didnt, but it sucked total and complete *******
If that's anything to go buy, just remember that Oscars, awards, etc are never an indicator of true talent period. They're always a joke. Heroes will go unsung

my 2 bobs.

I'm with Jamil - 100%
So rarely to do with talent/vision/creativity/originality.
Its all about re creating past successes - nothing to do with the great art of film making.
The industry is frightened of innovation, and terrified to put money behind anything that does not have a (past) formula.
Which unfortunately then influences our pathetic industry (thanks John Howard for killing our once great film industry)
Getting an Oscar means shit.
Millions of Youtube hits mean more than an Oscar.
But if anyone is a MSM reader - or avid TV watcher, then ignore the above.

The Grammy for "best electronic music act" went to Skrillex last year....if you need more proof that awards have nothing to do with the "best of anything"...please just let me know and i'll continue to list the abominations of previously handed out awards

You don't need to tell that to the VFX guys that won the oscar for the best visuals (Life of Pi). They have filed for bankruptcy. Not even a film grossing a billion dollars can save some people.

I'm disillusioned !!! Are you really telling me that something that is popular isn't automatically good???
Now I'll have to reset all of my quality detection filters

i should say tho, to the award elephants credit, every now and then, actual good artists get kudos...Outkast won a grammy a few years ago, those guys deserve everything they get...and shit, if John Pilger won an award for doco's....holy mole!
But these are rare imo.
