Singers Who Sound LIke Autotune

Postby Djembe » Wed May 01, 2013 10:51 am

Been noticing the phenemenon of young singers who have grown up listening to mainly autuned vocals, singng like that as part of their natural style. I hear it on "The Voice" with some of the younger pop singers. Maybe in a few years time Autotune will be obsolete (yeah right).

I mixed a few tunes for a singer/songwriter chap who plays american twang style country and he sounded like autotune. I don't think it was his mission to replicate the sound of autotune, just coincidence that the nasal qualities of his voice had similar sounding transitions between notes to that of autotune.

I mostly hear them gliss up to the note - didn't consider that they were emulating autotune - just thought they couldn't cleanly hit the note....... but you may well be right. Is it all Cher's fault?

I heard a lot of what sounds like autotune on Buble's latest single - and was surprised as I thought he could actually sing - perhaps it's for effect in his case?
