So fifteen years ago James Cadsky caught me in a moment of $$ weakness and bought these off me .. he had been working at Real World Studios in Bath .. he knew what was what ... I had coveted these things for about a decade before I had finally caught Inxs, David Nicholas and the crew at Rhinoceros here in Sydney in a moment of $$ weakness when it closed up shop ..
And I jumped in and grabbed them before they could understand what had just happened
.. these are the only two I have ever seen.

I have been trying to get them back off James ever since .. he would not move on them .. just laughed and said "one day when I am finished with them .."
I even bought the older bigger common mono versions in the last few years to make the loss and the wait a bit easier

Today James walked in and gifted them back to me !
... Now if you have never heard of Inxs.. Rhinoceros or a Bell bd-80s ...

trust me there is nothing to see here folks .. move right along ..

But if you wonder how some records in the late eighties early nineties could have delays all over them and the vocals don't sound washed out and still sound really great today and your perhaps wondering why your monkeytools plugin does not even come close.

Double Boomerang .

Nice bit of fiddleback they are sitting on there Rick. Looks like some sort of eucalypt, swamp ash can look like that. Then maybe it's Tassy Myrtle, though its hard to tell.
Great story and I'm glad you finally have them delay thingies back........

its the perfect wood except it only grows a few meters high and even then only in the middle of the upstate australian desert..
still it keeps ikea away from using it all for veneer i guess .

you cant see but its lined with solid ebony trim .. not quite as hard only beautiful if you like to feel more then look and smells like crap when you cut it .. bound to be toxic

they both polish up like glass on a buffing wheel though !

Sheesh - fifteen years is a while to wait for a couple of thirty year-old boxes.

I do remember liking the sound of those, and they were on a wish list (or should I say one of the wishlists) I had way back then. Haven't thought about 'em in years, so your post is a real blast from the dusty archives.

Better hang on to them this time, Rick. You might not want to wait *another* fifteen yrs for another lucky break if you let them go a second time!

I know how to wait .. even if its just for old heavy stuff
and they are stupidly heavy and get really hot .. must be good

Dang. When you posted these, I knew I should have jumped on it, because I've actually seen one (and heard it used). David Briggs has (had?) one of these.

I knew of a least another one....what happened to it is tragic....

There is a venue down here called the noise bar in brunwick and it belonged there.

What happened was i working on a Foh gig
In the city, just mixing the headliner, the part time in-house guy was really late and I couldn't contact him, finally he turns up and is pretty pissed off (nice fellow though, been around a looooong time) what had happened the night before at the noise bar, some moron had let a flare off at the end of the gig and it hit the Foh rack which he owned, in that rack was some gear he had since the 80's including, you guessed it, the bell delay

He was particularly pissed about that delay.
