Ha, great stuff, Rick!

Love the U47fet - great mic in its own right. But it's fascinating to see the Gotham line on it from '72 (and their pitch that it sounds the same as its 'parent').

I wonder how many people believed it, even then. A few, I suppose. :-B

Not to mention the fact that apparently the valve version's time had come to an end in 1972.

The boss of Gotham also has a famous printed quote
That anybody still using a tube microphone in
1973 is clearly NOT a professional engineer !

That said when I started making records both
Our u 47 tubes where hiding in the tech room
Broken and had been for many years
The 4 x u 67 had not been serviced in anybody's
Living memory and all sounded different and
Dull as dishwater .. The u 47 fets on the other hand
Got a look in every session .. Great go to mikes !
Still are IMO ..

But really We were all dreaming of a japanese sankin !
Or maybe the hallowed sound field !

The ribbons has been thrown out years / decades
early .. Who used a ribbon between 1972 and 1992
.. Nobody as best I can tell :)

Ah, so it's the shape of the grill that gives a mic it's sound!!
I like how they are touting "op amps" as a selling point.
Only a few years later "transformerless" was the buzzword.
Keep em coming, Rick!

We're all glad your such audio boffin hoarder. Best that only one suffers the reality & we can all benefit on the ether without the mess. I'm always interested in a refund. You think I can still get $25 grand? Who can I challenge? I want my $25 grand ! Actually the way the dollar was back then it was more like $19 k.

Did any of the Olive stuff actually go into production? You never see any Olive stuff second hand.

Those Stephens adds are hilarious. Have you seen the one where the model is dragging a 24 track down a beach?
Fantastic.
I have a few old audio mags from the 70's, surely nothing to compare with Rick's collection, but great reading.
Cheers
Paul

Senor Squire seems to believe that only one of the Olive Series 2100 eqs was ever made, and he racked it.

Ooh, there she is! I wonder if that machine was ever sold?
Imagine finding sand and false eyelashes inside your shiny/ rusty new tape machine.
What is that console on the DB mag cover? A Q8?
It seems studios were much braver with there colour schemes back then. I like it.
Cheers,
Paul
