Hi guys,

Anyone suggest or recommend an amp clamp that is suitable for mounting large diaphragm condensors off a cab and enable up and down and in and out adjustment easily? You know for that tiny adjustment.

I'm sick of arm wrestling the mic stand.

Maybe nothing exists

hack one of these apart, and put a mic stand screw on the lcd end....
and bolt the other end to a stand device, maybe on wheels....

Was hoping to buy and bolt on directly to the cab and avoid using a mic stand.

For that matter, did anyone ever track down a good supplier of heavy duty mic stands? I know people were talking on TRF about it for a while. Just wondering if anything happened with that?

For little stands for big mics I don't think there is anything
But surely a small stand with a large cast round base is the go
Atlas make one that works well

Or buy the standard sm 57 amp clamp thing and get inventive
With bits n pieces of another stand ?

What about Eric Valentine's mic positioner? (About 1 minute from the start.)

Yeah Rick, I think I might have found a solution with ampclamp.com with an accessory they have for "flat mics".

Just have to get my head around how I can position the mic
With it. I like to mount the Ldc horizontal, not vertically.

(Not real spacially intelligent at the moment. Lol)

Oh when I was talking about mic stands, mainly thinking of normal size ones for tracking vocals, accoustic guitars.

Are round base ones good for that? I'd be hanging and se reflexion filter off it aswell as the ldc.

Maybe something that is just straight up and down, as I clamp the reflexion filter right off the vertical pole normally.

How about one of these with a short boom arm attached if you need the extra reach.

I had a look at a video on that clamp and I think it might not be strong enough for hanging an LDC off. Just because its a spring loaded attachment. I dunno maybe it is. Arghh what to do!

Hey Dwane, best solution for exact placement (up, down, left, right, forward, back) is a quality short boom. Unless you want to start wrestling with a DIY clamp...especially if you want to mount a filter as well. That could send you around the bend man. Goosenecks and all....
Why do you need it to be a clamp? Do you have space restrictions or is it a live thing...?
Otherwise good quality short boom with give you maximum flexibility and ample strength. Peace mate.

Yeah I'm kinda thinking of the set and forget it kinda thing.

I use the same mic for vocals and guitars so being able to do a quick changeover is ideal for me. Particularily if its on the same position. Blah blah blah.

I don't know if the thread size will fit the shock mount size though. Gotta check that out.

But what would you recommend for studio stands. Even for full size vocal stands. The round bottom ones or three
Legged ones? What brands are heavy duty? I can't seem to find any decent ones.

I'd love to have a ceilings mounted one though, lol!

I own a cab grabber.. I use itbwithba i5 on my fender princeton for live.

Works brilliantly for that.

No way I would hang a LDC off it, SD, perhaps..

What about a Z-Bar? A few guys I know swear by them.

Why not just get the amp clamp and whack a shot bag on top of it?

Oh do you mean the z-bar to hold it on top of the amp. I think you can put it under the handle aswell. I just messaged amp clamps (the other one I was look at) to ask about thread compatibility.

The thumb screw is almost certainly a 3/8 thread with a 5/8 adapter. That will fit probably 99% of clips/shock mounts etc.

Actually just found some 5/8 to 3/8 adapter on eBay so that's no longer a problem with either if they are 5/8.
