Hey guys,

I know this topic has been covered a lot but can't find any solid answers to what I need.

What prices have you, if used the product at all, found? Only quote I've obtained via the interwebz is $293 for a pack of 3 (2400 X 1200 X 100mm). I haven't contacted Tontine directly yet but just wondering if this figure is in the ball park for others.

And is it only the 100mm size that holds the 48 kg/m3 rating? No info would tell me otherwise I've found...

When I was shopping for acoustisorb 2 for my studio build they had the lowest price.
I had previously bought from Stylevision at a higher price.
I ended up buying from Mitre 10 in Canterbury after Chris (Linear) recommended them.
They will match the online price. I think Cade was the guy we dealt with.

Gareth's guys look like they are worth checking out.

I'll be needing more acoustisorb in a few months.

I've seen Polymax XHD 100 for $29.8 ex. gst per square meter.
So for a 1.2x2.4m sheet that would be about $95 all up.

Pretty sure it is higher density than acoustisorb 3 as well.

christ the last thing any of us really need to stress over is the freq count of the products in those ranges when they are that close without really understanding how and why they were tested and how that application to the application we put the fluff in ...

ie read .. dont stress over the fluff try and stick to your budgets .. buy what ever you can afford that looks about right to you

nearly nothing there is white .. !

But by the by, a shit load of absorption stuff stuffed in a deep corner trap is going to soak up some low end jargon but as real estate is at a minimum here, need that absorption stuff to do it's job super well.

I can recommend the Polymax, I've used it... it's good value and cross layered... very even distribution of the fibres.

Also cheaper than Acoustisorb.

went well - got some 75mm HD sheets from Martini Industries in Laverton.

Is very rigid, easy to work with and did just what we wanted it too, soak up some standing waves/low end in the cnr's of the control room. Made a rhomboid template (best shape to fit the wall) and cut about 40 pieces to size and stacked them up on each other then covered in a thin black material for a membrane.

Off the top of my head you could buy in single sheets or cheaper for 3 and above sheets. I think (not remembering the price as was a while ago...) a 1.2 x 2.4m sheet was around the $110 mark. I'll dig up an invoice and have a look for you Myles.

Ok, so HD 75mm polymax is 0.40 @ 125Hz and 88mm Soundscreen is also 0.40 @ 125Hz.

At $110 a 1.2X2.4 sheet, Polymax is just over $38/m2 and Soundscreen at $50 ($40odd, but let's say $50) a bag, which covers 4.5m2, is about $10/m2.

Although it seems the polymax is much more rigid (going by the discussion above), which doesn't seem to change its performance comparing to the softer Soundscreen, Soundscreen still seems a no-brainer.

But yes, you do save 13mm on space (or 15mm, if you compare the sizes of frame you would potentially use, 90mm for Soundscreen vs 75mm for Polymax).

I paid under a grand for 12 sheets of polymax 50mm 48kg / m3 delivered through CSR, and that included a Tasman tax. It is rigid (moreso than equivalent tontine).

On a side note - a friend of a friend suggested I should be worried about having this stuff on the walls due to it being a fire risk. It does melt / flame at very high temps and there are some potentially unsettling youtube vids out there with blowtorches etc.

My uneducated opinion is that, if a fire's hot enough to melt the sound insulation the studios fucked anyway. Any more educated thoughts?
