The auction actually finished... so hopefully the "someone else" wasn't a poor guy or girl who paid $2300 thinking they were getting a trident with free shipping from China.

Ouch. - - - But hopefully, the fact that it is now a "this item has been removed" link will mean the "winning" bidder will also have received an eBay message advising them not to proceed.

I say hopefully, without actually having all that much faith in eBay to do the right thing - sadly.

whilst were on the subject,

watch out for the oberheim obxa on gumtree - the photo and text are copied directly from a listing on us ebay.. sneaky or too lazy to write an ad and take a photo..

I reported this to eBay and to the seller in the US. Both sent me nice emails thanking me and eBay said they had removed the offending ad and were taking action against the seller, whatever that means. Anyway, hopefully it saved someone from parting with a couple of grand on a scam.

Nice going Bob, good to know that there was an efficient response.

I must say I've reported a few comparable scams over the years, with somewhat mixed results. Sometimes they act quickly, sometimes they act belatedly, and sometimes they do nothing. Maybe things are improving. I hope so...
