I am currently preparing for the audio cabling between rooms in my studio. When it was being built, as well as the usual host of audio cables, I ran a series of USB, Firewire, VGI, DVI, HDMI etc etc etc cables between the live room and the control room.

Today as I was preparing all the wall plates etc I started thinking about Thunderbolt. I don't have any gear that utilises thunderbolt but I do have a computer with a thunderbolt port.

So I started wondering should I be installing a Thunderbolt wall plate in there as well, just as a bit if future proofing.

I have searched around on the new, looked up my Wes Components catalogue but I'm not finding much.

As I don't/haven't used Thunderbolt connections before for anything, I thought I might just seek some advise from anyone out there?

I like the idea of future proofing but am very wary about assuming Apple connections will have much future longevity - they have a long history of changing their porting ..... remember 9 pin serial? 25 pin parallel? SCSI in a 50pin / centronics / honda 50 pin M/F / honda centronics etc?

A thunderbolt to firewire cable may be a more cost effective option for the few thunderbolt connections that will be around for the next few years - it runs fine over firewire.

2c and probably only worth 1c

Also worth noting, Thunderbox has ic's in the connector at each end of the cable, so don't know if this may affect how you would have to go about interconnecting the cables.

Thanks for the input.

I have decided to forgo even thinking about it anymore. It was one of those last minute "now, what have I forgotten here, is there anything else" type of things. I think the studio will be just fine without any sort of Thunderbolt inter-connectivity.
