Is anyone going to buy this?
Just so happens we updated our MacBook Pro this weekend with Dick Smiths 10% off Apples with free Apple TV.
Now I have a machine I can load Logic Pro X on, I think I will take the plunge.

I bought it.

I like it.

the new DRUMMER thing is very cool.

I also have Apple TV, Its cool too.

I bought it also.

The new Drummer feature is cool as are the GUI improvements - way more "logical"!

Be prepared for some serious downloading though if you want the extra content - over 30gig

Also, the install hung during the downloading of the "essential content".
Restarting my MBP in safe mode and reiniating the download fixed the problem.

If you were starting out from scratch as a DAW software buyer this, at around $200, represents incredible value.
For me, it represents a reasonably priced upgrade.

Worth the price of admission just for Drummer alone.

Should I just get a how to use Logic 9 tutorial to learn this and or is this so different I should wait for a Logic X tutorial?

macprovideo.com has some tutorials up. The new manual seems a little easier to learn from as well.

I saw a tutorial on the new drum software. It looked pretty amazing, especially the "follow the instrument" selected. It will be interesting to see how well that works with very sloppy musco's.
The demo video talked about the Producer's kits and the ability to go to each individaul snare,tom, kick, cymbal whatever and select whether you wanted birch, maple, brass, alloy ect.
Is this an add on or another layer in the drum program?

That's just part of drummer. I can't remember if you need to download additional content or not though.

Drummer is basically the same concept as BFD.

30gb of data is fairly large.
Can you download in sections?

Wow, after all the rumours about how it was going to be dumbed down to "LogicBand" it seems like they have done a pretty decent job.

I'm keen to see what impact it has on the pricing of the competitors.

at 200 bucks, its just unvelievable value.

The way Logic handles audio is still fairly tragic, IMO. It's getting better but still lagging the other DAWs in that department.

It's hard to beat the price of Reaper and as a DAW it's none too shabby! Got a lot going for it i think.

Hope they have sorted out stability issues, with all the info out there on sessions not loading up as saved, missing audio etc.
I also remember Myles here on Trock, stating that he teaches Logic at uni, but would never use it as a work platform because of the strange stability issues.

I would not want to do a professional session with Logic until there is plenty of evidence that it is rock solid.

I must admit I ditched Logic for Cubase because of the stability issues. I've been very happy with Cubase (and I'm not switching back, WAY too much effort). But for $200, I'd get Logic just for the audio library.

It's still full of bugs. It's not too bad for composer types but i'd never be recording a band with it.

Still full of bugs??? Why can't they get their shit together?
Its been years.

They spent too much time making Logic usable for Garageband upgraders. There are a number of new features but most of it feels like an upgrade to the GUI to make the program less daunting.

I also reckon they got worried that the 4 year mark was approaching and rushed it out half-baked.

Logic has been free of bugs for years for me untill i recently got a new macbook pro and now logic won't talk nicely to my ensemble. Maybe X will be better behaved in that dept?

Rock solid for me so far, with a new iMac, Mountain Lion and an Apogee Symphony.

Never really had problems with my Ensemble in the past either BTW.

Changes to keyboard shortcuts are driving me nuts though, but I'll adapt.

Logic's been totally rock solid for me for more years than I care to remember, recorded countless groups, never ever let me down (touches everything wooden in sight!!!).
I'm on Snow Leopard, so I'll wait a while I reckon...

Logic 9 stable and reliable here

as I muck about with LOGIC PRO X its crashing every now and then, but its always related to a plug in. Does the audio weird thing, makes warbling noises as you move about the page with the mouse...

I expect this and wouldnt use it for anything other than shits and giggles for a while.. perhpas an update or two down the track then..

If you guys can't crash Logic or get its GUI to glitch and weird out you just aren't trying hard enough.

I go out of my way to crash Logic

Took the plunge and bought the product.
Now the learning curve starts.
Really enjoying the drum program part and can see why people are talking about it, but apart frm that I have not done much more.
It does take a while to download it all. Best to do it in sections which is easy to do.

A lot of the older stuff still applies to X.

Spent some more time with this over the weekend. The new Drummer plugin and arrangement markers work a treat as a songwriting tool.

And still no crashes so far either. Must try harder

Unlike PT. It crashed about 40 times on the weekend, losing recordings every time.

I thought Macs were supposed to be stable? Grrr...
