AKG C414 swing clip loose - fix?

I've got one of the early 414's that have the clip as part of the body with the little swing latch to secure it in position, but it doesn't hold very well , especially on strange angles. I like it as a snare bottom, but I have to gaffa it to hold it horizontal. I've tried to find a way to tighten it but buggered if I can. Does anyone know the secret to fixing them? It's one like this -

replace the fibre washers.

I know you'll ask with what ... and I just rummage around in my "assorted rubber" junk box until I find something. Perhaps some sheet rubber that I can cut out some washers from.

Hi Rob, I thought the washers would be the issue, but the thing is I can't for the life of me work out how to get the pin/screw with the little handle on it out. It only turns about 90 degrees then stops. I didn't want to force it, but maybe I'll have another go..

I have had success with replacing the fibre washers with rubber as Rob has suggested, I actually used the rubber washer from some old K&M stands.

Alternatively you could replace the whole mount system, I did this for a pair of C12B's (now owned by Phil Georges) and used the Marion Adapter from Telefunken USA

The mod is totally reversible but really improves the versatility of the mics, they can now be used with a standard clip or the modern 414 style shock mount.

Hi, unfortunately they won't work with the 414 as the clip is actually part of the mic body. I managed to get the screw out so I'll just find or make some new washers to go in the hinge bit.

Oh, sorry, I assumed from your photo that it functioned the same as a C12a or C12B in that by unscrewing the thumb wheel the lower portion of the mic comes off exposing the 7pin connector. Then the connector assembly is replace by the Telefunken part and you connect a 7pin XLR to your PSU cable. But as I type that I realise the 414 probably didn't have an external PSU.............
