talking low shelving EQs on channels here
what frequencies do you find you need/ want to use?

i find 100Hz (which is common on so many cheaper boards) really isn't effective.
its to high for kick
but too low for thickening anything else
80 is good… for proper low stuff
160 or even 200 starts to work for general "bottom end"

where do you guys find you "swing the dial" to?
or if you had a choice of one or two fixed frequencies - what would they be?

I like 60. I like 150 too. I could live with 200 instead.
100 is good as a subtractive shelf when you just want to nudge some bottom down rather the HPF it to clean things up that don't need to be squatting on the bass and kick's turf.

80 and 160 would be my choices.

I agree 100 never is quite right.

Looking at my latest mix.... I have 2 channels at 60, 2 channels at 63, one channel at 31 and one channel at 44 - the other 18 channels have no low shelving..... method used = ears

any other thoughts on this (ill reveal the reason for the poll later!)

You already know my response Gareth, but for the benefit of being included in the frequency poll...my buddies on the low shelf are normally 60 and 220hz.

I would prefer HPF buttons on consoles to be 80Hz given the choice….

80, 100, 300

somewhere around there, but all my EQ is ITB

But I much with the dB per octave in conjunction with the freq to get what i want...

60hz shelf if it has to be fixed freq.
With a sweepable hpf. If it cant be sweepable, 40 and 80 rolloff points would be nice.

ITB I usually HPF at 40 and 120. My desk doesn't have hpf so I'm interested
In the outcome of this if and when I add tho option to the desk.

hi chris… thats sort of why I'm asking opinions

i am in the process of rebuilding (well, actually rob squire is doing it for me, I'm just the owner/ money) a neve console i have recently purchased
as we are going over everything from the ground up - seemed like a smart time to make it suit my needs. (more details on the console in general later)
the EQ section is a little odd.. as i understand the board originally came from a radio station in the UK so that might explain it.

there is a switchable hi-pass filter at 40, 80 and 150 (all useful!)
then the low shelf EQ is switchable between 20??? and 80
sweepable mid sweeps down to 200 at its lowest)

SO - I'm going to modify that low freq turnover point to something more useful.
i will leave the 80 as is, but thinking 120 or 160 for the other option.. just wanted to other peoples opinions on what they thought was most useable, or if i was thinking about it all wrong and everyone wanted a 200 shelf (which doesn't seem to be the case)

so now you know the reason for the question.. if there are any more thoughts I'm keen to hear!

Ive got a little 5452 desktop broadcast mixer with 34128 & 34129 modules which have similar figures to what you described:
Hpf - 47, 82 & 150 hz @ 12db
Fixed low shelf @ 100hz
3 selector mids @ 820, 1.8 & 3.9k
Fixed high shelf @ 10k

Love the Hpf on these and the 10k high shelf is quite nice although on a couple of modules sounds more 8k-ish & others 12k-ish, just need a going over imo.
Mid band could be a bit more adjustable but has a nice fixed q, the 100hz low shelf definitely has a nice warmth to it but cloudy/muddyness if used too much. A 60, 80 or 120hz figure might be more usable for these as thats normally where my shelves are but if you're altering the circuit, sweepable from 60 to 200 would be the ticket!!
