Cool Room Studio
Just been up north for holidays and stopped in on a mate who lives near Byron Bay. He had been building a studio a couple of years back but I hadn't had a chance to check it out.
Basically he's put down a basic slab then he's constructed the outer shell from cool room panels. Bolted this structure together and then set about putting the internal structure in place. Talk about a portable studio - when/if he moves he'll throw the cool room onto the back of a truck and voila!
Now keeping in mind he is using the room solely for tracking vocals and singular instruments. However I am throwing myself into the studio ring this year and setting about building a control room and small overdub booth (plus a utility room with the excess space). He says you can get the panels in 6m lengths which suits my early design ideas of at least an 11ft internal ceiling. The structure pops together quite straight forwardly he assured me, he even had his good lady wife bolting the panels together (nothing like a supportive other when studio building).
Anyone ever come across this idea. I'm quite impressed with the finished product and for the price it looks good and more importantly sounds great.
