Well as you know, Norm has dropped his bomb.

So... Sydney t-rockers - if I bought the C800g, would anyone be interested in renting it?

I *could* scrape up the cash to buy it, but I'm pouring all my cash into outfitting a TV studio and not doing much recording gear investment at the moment.

I'm not looking to start a hire business, but it seems silly to buy a mic like that and not get decent usage out of it. Also to the best of my knowledge no-one in Sydney has a C800, and it would be good to have one as a resource.

On that note - is anyone else from Sydney seriously considering buying it?

I'd LOVE to buy it...but it would be my employers not me personally (would make sense the amount of pop stuff we do).

I'm just not sure I have the budget...plus with our connections we might be able to get one new for a great price.

In the interim period..I'd definitely be interested in renting it! I'd have one potential client instantly...

On a related note, has anyone got ANY hire contacts in Sydney? being relatively new to the town and coming from London, I've found the lack of a hire scene frustrating at times.

I have a few mics I hire out on occasion (Coles 4038s, KM84s also Gunter-serviced) and I'd be interested in buying more with the option of hiring them to trusted contacts....?

hi psycho monkey
yes the hire scene is very different (non existent) compared to the UK or US
its just a smaller market so its a different game
i have a lot of outboard (not so much mics) available to hire
i do a lot of hi end outboard for FOH engineers due to my touring contacts - so everything is patched/ cased etc.
email me on gareth at gigpiglet.com.au if you would like to know what i can do..

You can hire mics from a bunch of places...
Old Worldy (i think they do mics? and outboard too)...
Mixmasters (who ship interstate)
Sound Haven (or, Glen Phimister)
Im not sure if those guys are doing their thing still.

Thanks for that list Jamil. I've just had Mixmasters service my Royers, so I'll definitely ask them....and check out the other places too.

Thanks to Gareth as well - have emailed you!

Ha thanks! Still not the easiest thing to find online...do you have their website address at all?!

On the other hand, now know of a great looking "oldy worldy" hotel in Katoomba...!

Another option might be to place a 'wanted to hire' thread in the for sale section here.
There are quite a few members here with some desirable mics. :ympeace:

The "studio gear" hire business died about 15+ years ago when Studio FX went out of business.
Most of my classic gear hire is through acquaintences or newer gear through PA companies like Coda, Sound on Stage an Norwest.
Haven Productions is the name of Glen Phimister's business, I think he still hires gear, he used to have a nice U47 or 48.
