Hi All
Got a big question. Bought a pair of Focal Solo 6 BE's back in 2007. One of the best things I've bought. In 2012, I had the chassis in speaker 1 replaced with the new version after it developed a scratchy noise. Cost of $600 (discount from Focal). In 2013 the OTHER one did the same thing, but was quoted $800 to replace chassis, so opted for repair at a cost of just over $400. 2 Weeks ago the REPAIRED speaker went bad again. Was quoted $800 for chassis with $165 to fit!!!!
Anyway, I emailed Focal with a full history, and they (To their credit) said they will replace the chassis/amp at no cost to me due to the ongoing issues - a big win I think!! I suspect the first batch may have had some problems. The new chassis in the first speaker that was replaced in 2012 has not missed a beat since (touch wood). Pretty soon I'll have the new module in the second speaker, and both should be good as gold.
The Dilemma: Do I SELL these speakers while they are like new again just in case and buy something else >> question is what?? Have not heard much in their price range I like better (although haven't looked for a while). I really like these speakers, and it's taken me a while to get to know them. They're nicely run in and they sound great. Do I just hope that they will keep going with the new modules and stick with them?
Decisions Decisions....!!! Yes, I know it's a how long is a piece of string kind of question, but I'm a little....um.....flummoxed I guess. And perhaps a little burned - despite the good will being shown now, which has kind of surprised me (perhaps they are aware of more than they are saying?)
I'm a small part time business, and buying high end gear is a big deal for me and I tend to buy once with the intention of buying right for the long term. I really can't afford ongoing repairs on this scale. Even though Focal and the dealer have been great - in particular this time.
Any thoughts?
Cheers...Nathan

Not sure what the focals are worth or cost, but I'm like you, I buy once for the ling term, even if I have to eat toast for dinner to do it lol
I bought the opals nearly 2 years ago, the most expensive speakers I've ever owned and whilst it took me a while to learn how to mix on them, I'm pretty happy with them.
My 7 cents.
