Linear Recording Neve Install

Hi all,

Some pretty exciting news from Linear Recording! We've just installed a custom built/ex-abc/ex-OB truck 1975 Neve console and done a complete rewire and rearrange of the studio.

There's a little bit of information about this particular desk here: http://www.audiotechnology.com.au/PDF/F ... s_Live.pdf

Over the course of about 8 days the control room was completely emptied, the walls clad in recycled timber and completely reassembled in a new, more logical layout with the Neve sitting pride of place. Rob Squire flew in from Adelaide to oversee the process and sort out any issues with the desk itself. Coincidently Gigpiglet are putting a Neve in right now too, so Rob was dividing his time between us and them. Chris and I recapped most of the board before Rob arrived so we could get strait into the install.

The patchbays (longframe jack) were still attached to the board and a lot of them were already laid out in a useful way so we could use them as they were, but a lot of them weren't and needed to be completely re-wired. Fortunately we had an awesome crew on the job. Chris, Wade, Antonia and Dorny all soldered their asses off and we knocked most of that over in a few days.

All in all it was a pretty strait forward install and everything is working like a dream. I could bang on about more of the details but I'm sure you'd all rather see some pictures, so here you go.

Mat, you're a tease. I don't reckon any of us suspected this, and you left it to Chris to tell us!

That's the Neve from the old Sydney ABC Radio OB Van I believe..it certainly saw a lot of action....Engineer Dennis Fox spent many, many hours sitting at that one...

Mal, yes indeed. It was still in the van at the last Turtlerock BBQ.

Speaking of Turtlerock BBQs, it's been a while.

So - this is my mini review:
I spent 9 days on this Neve, recorded and mixed an album.
All I can say is this console is a BEAST!
All class A goodness - headroom forever.
> It is absolutely stunningly huge sounding.

Coupled with Linear's 16 track Ampex MM1200 (God of tape machines), outboard Quadeight EQ's (yum) etc, etc,
a force to be reckoned with.
I cant praise this console enough, & also Wade is probably the best assistant Ive ever worked with!

A studio game changer.
# This would be my most fave console in the country.
I found a new home to do all of my projects.
Blown away!
(man drags jaw along the ground for weeks...)

Get in there!!!

Cheers
