waves licence on USB

i have recently had a computer die, and as all my waves plugs were licensed to it - have to go through a lot of hoops to get them back
i couldn't use the "recover" option as i had used it in the last 12 months to move between computers in studio A and B when we shuffled licenses/ systems (in hindsight we did that the wrong way)

but anyway - i am NOW (and from now on) going to put all my plug in licenses on USB instead of computer.
1 - i can move them between studios
2 - if a computer dies i don't have to go through hell to get the plugs back on the new system

problem being - it seems that wave V9 will not go on an ilock
it has to be on an external USB

so i have done that - and now have a USB sitting on my desktop that could be ejected/ copied/ deleted etc which has all my licenses on it.
i havnt found a way to "hide" that drive.

what do you guys do?
i can't recall seeing a Waves licence USB on every studios desktop.. but its been a while since I've been in someone else's place. and before V9 you could put the licence on your ilok..

i may be missing something simple

please let me know there is a better way

Do Waves allow you to have their plugs on more than one computer?
If so, you could have the licenses on a USB drive, and another set on an office computer - not so much to use, but as a safety in case you need to recover them.

you can install the plugs wherever
its the licence that you only have one version of

you can "move" the licence around on a USB from comp to comp
or you can licence directly to the computer (which i did last time) but if you have a computer fail… the licence is tied to the logic board, and you lose it (you can "recover" once per year. but I've just proven that won't always solve the issue)

like i say - there has to be something simple I'm missing.. I've never noticed a USB drive on other peoples desktops..

You could uncheck Hard Disks and External Disks from 'Show these items on the desktop' in the Finder Preferences (General). While you're at it, uncheck them in the Finder Sidebar preferences so you don't accidentally eject the USB there.

yes but then you see no drives at all
i like to see my hard drives on the desk top for ease of copying etc
i sort of need to do what you are saying but just for one icon

pretty sure this will work.. unhiding the library on a 10.8.5 install got me thinking
say you call your USB stick WavesV9

In terminal (with it plugged in)

$ chflags hidden /Volumes/WavesV9/
