I'm tossing up between the Sennheiser HD650 and 600s. I have the HRTFs for the 600s, which is really what I'm interested in.

Both these models are high impedance, so, what are y'all using to power your high impedance cans?

Rick, your headphone amp was custom made no?

Anyone building these things?

its great.

I resisited for years getting something like this, shouldn't have.

it also came overnight from Adelaide, to Bundy.. amazing.

I have a Benchmark DAC-1 for my HD600's which I love, but it's a converter as well.
I also have a 2 channel custom headphone amp from Rob, which is also great.
The good thing about Rob's is that he will put in any features you need as well as the number of channels.

If you want something a little different that drives hi-z headphones,have a look at the Bottle head Crack OTL headphone amp. Uses a 12au7 and 6080 dual power triode. http://www.bottlehead.com
It gets rave reviews from audiophiles,particularly with Sennheiser 600,800 etc.

I'm looking at getting a couple of Crack OTL amps for myself and some friends to see what they're like and do some tube rolling with NOS 6SN7 o/p tubes (older version of 6080) and Telefunken 12au7/ecc82.

I have a set of the HD650's and I love that I can listen to music for as long as I like and my ears don't ache. I'm interested in hearing what people recommend as I need to get a good headphone amp too.
Has anyone heard the sennheiser HDVD 800 amp? They are not cheap. How much is robs amp?

$300 for a single (stereo ) channel. $440 for a dual stereo channel

runs off mains voltage ( 90 ~ 250Vac ), balanced in, very low noise and distortion and loud. Will happily drive hi-Z headphones that require more voltage.

Rob's HP amps ,(at least the ones in the monitor controller he built me) have heaps of juice and sound just as you'd expect.

Ive got Robs HPhone amp too - built into my passive mixer/switcher/meter/everything I need rack.
Sounds really great.
