Hi guys,
HAs anyone here used this compressor?
I've read some reviews that suggest it is very slow, but grabby at the same time when it does react. Quite a few people think it's very hard to get usable sound out of it.
What are your experiences and how much do you think this module is worth on 2nd hand market?

OK..I was looking for some trustworthy reports on this compressor and after not getting much from people I know and/or trust their taste, I bit the bullet and got one. Picked it up used, today.
Seeing there were a few views of the topic here, I thought a few others might be interested in finding out how it sounds.
Only had it for about 2 hours or so, and managed to try it on Vox, acoustic gtr and snare.
On vox it is nothing extraordinary, but a nice dynamic control with a very subtle color.
Acoustic gtr... nice tightening of the whole sound and making it sit in the mix much nicer.
So, nothing to write home about on these two sources, but you can tell it's a quality piece of gear...
....and then....I try it on SNARE.
I got 3-4 different snare sounds out of the same source in 20 seconds. 3-4 big, slappy, punchy snare sounds out of one standard sounding sample.

more weight - check
more ring - check
less ring-check
crushed to death-check
cool envelope shaping - check

This thing is awesome on snare. I hope it will be equally as good on toms, kick, bass.
I've read some people use them linked on the stereo buss as well..See how we go with the one first...So far, so good.
With the new (feed forward)/old (feed back) switch and hard/soft knee, I prefer so far new and soft

Good rear Senad - was looking at getting one of these in the future but always slightly wary of the over/under hyped reviews that you read on gearslutz, sound on sound etc so to have it come from a brains trusts' mouth is more than welcoming!!

No probs Dave.. I got an email from Turra music..they have the 527 on special at $950. I paid $800 2nd hand. On Ebay US they go for around 725-750. So $950 for a brand new one, is not bad at all.

Just wanted to add a +1 for this comp.
I had the use of an API Box for a month or so and these (built in) comps were across the master bus on every mix. No its not a super fast comp but it is really musical and elastic in this application. You can really mix into it and get great results. Also I liked all the options with the new/old, hard/soft knee set-up. Didn't use it much on individual sources but as a stereo comp it rocked.....

well I'm not sure how close it relates to the api2500 but I have one and use it all the time including using it on mono sources...
