Hey Guys,

I've just finished dumping a whole heap of mixes from Tape, to 'tools.

The session was in 44.1 synced to external clock.

Unfortunately, it appears that the clock was broadcasting t.c. at 48 kHz, meaning that whenever i play the files back now they are slightly slow. and dropped in pitch.

Anyway to resolve this? Like for example, can I change a setting somewhere and tell the file "Hey, you were actually recorded at 48kHz"

Any Suggestions>?

Create a new session at 48 kHz
Import the relevant audio from your 44.1kHz session
Spot any tracks that need it.
Save

Timecode is not subject to sample rates. Unless it is on an audio track but even still, it clocks itself, that's why we use it.

Check out sox, I think it should be able to change the header to 48K without actually changing the file or resampling.

Daniel - Tried what you suggested - but 'Tools just did a SRC which left me with the same problem.

Kris - Yeah I'm not sure what happened here, 'Tools was set to "recieve clock from digital input" and because it has the ability to over/under sample by roughly 10% it seems that it thought that the 48k singnal coming in was just a fast 44.1.

When I run the session clocked to the A/D s at 48 kHs everything plays back fine even though the session says it is at 44.1

When I play back the session using a clock set at 44.1 it plays back slow.

Kurt - Thanks for the advise. Sox does actually fix the problem, however I ended up with a file in a 48 kHZ Sample rate that is destined for CD.
I still have the tape machine sitting next to me, so in the interest of sound quality I am going to just re-record the files from tape.

I just remembered that I left a step out! You have to go to the desktop, copy or move the relevant audio files from the 44.1kHz session into the Audio Files folder of your 48kHz session, then open your 48kHz session and then import/add the files into the session from their new location. But it sounds like you sorted it anyway! :D

That's weird, because the TC signal is not processesed as audio, it's sync and is a completely different route into tools.

I think you have a word clock issue, not a smaple rate issue. I could be wrong.

Thats what the problem was...

The Session was a 44.1 session, but the clock was at 48k, and becuase ProTools can actually sync at +/-10% of the specified frequency, it seemed that tools took the 48k clock source as a 44.1 clock source.

I was thinking that seeing as 'tools has resolved itself to a 48k clock, if I could just tell it that the files were recorded at 48k, and synced to a 48k clock then the issue would resolve itself.

Thankfully, it was only a master tape beinjg imported, and not a "performance" I am just gonna put this one down to "experience".
