Hey all,
I'm looking to grab a headphone amp in the coming weeks and I'm interested to hear what other users here have had success with?
I love the look of the Rane HC6s but its well above my price range ($300 is the max I'm willing to spend).
I've heard that the B*%#@$ger stuff tends to have hum/noise issues which I'd like to avoid if possible.
The ART Headamp 6 Pro is a serious contender at the moment but any light you can shed would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Darren

What about something like these built by Rob Squire? I'm pretty sure these would knock any of the models you've mentioned out of the park.

at that price point I bought my sm pro hp6. It's a simple unit with 4 stereo inputs and six amps with a switch controlling which input feeds the amp. No bells or whistles. I've used it heaps and it works well, will drive headphones loud enough to kill and sounds fine when tracking. Never compared it to a better quality unit in an A/B but none have ever mentioned the quality of the sound. Their new one the HP6E looks like they've added some features but I would probably prefer the older unit just because it is simpler.

I got the ART headamp 6 Pro the other day, after returning a brand new, faulty Tas cam piece of garbage.
ART has a stereo input and 6 separate stereo direct inputs, so if you wish you can input a different stereo mix for all the 6 cans. Also has treble and bass controls for each output channel. Outs on back and font. Also XLR outs through. You will never have it turned up all the way, it's loud enough at half way..
At $279, it's a pretty good deal.

I highly recommend one from Rob.
I can tell you ... I use mine every day, and it's simply fantastic.

i have just (finally, after buying all new DT770 for the studio) gone and got robs amps for all the rooms.
i think it will blow your budget a little (not by that much though!)
and if you have it to spend, totally worth it.
if you need cheap/ quick solution... ill have some be!@#$%^& ones for sale (cant remember model numbers and not in studio at the moment) but will be going cheap..

I have one of the Aphex head pod 4ch units and it is excellent - clear and loud with stereo + mono analog ins and SPDIF in. Far better than the behr it replaced.
However, I would get one of Rob's if I got another.

Thanks for all the advice guys. You've given me some food for thought.
I'm waiting on a tax return to come through - if it's more than I expect I'll take the Proharmonic path for sure...
If not I think I'll grab the ART.
Cheers!
