Acoustics Report

Hi guys,

I need to provide council an Acoustic Report to satisfy council's requirements in the permit for proposed apartments and a multi-media studio in the shop at the front of squash court building.

Council requires a report by someone 'qualified' and that 40 dB Transmission Loss is met.

Concerns I have are:

1) The 35 and 40dBA specs set by Council may provide a suitable target, but even if met could be quite unpleasant if the main noise is made up of low frequency noise and so not meet a loss of amenity criteria. The SEPP N-2 Night Time criteria would be a better one. In fact the studio would have to meet this anyway.

2) The unknown factor is what noise levels will the studio be dealing with? These we would need to know, especially on the octave bands to ensure the low frequency performance can be adequately attenuated.

To work out a starting pointy, we would need to know the prevailing background noise levels in the neighbour’s properties in each octave band I'm guessing ...

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

ive done a fair bit of this for live events (things like sydney running fest in the botanic gardens) and DA approvals to allow events, as well as show that the event meets said..

you have noted the interesting things about the whole issue

"qualified" is not defined
and levels are "suggested"
furthermore in this case (like getting a DA for an event that is going to happen in the future) you are working with "expected" sound levels.

so its all very very vague. which is why the system doesnt work. and when someone complains, there is no way to prove you meet any standard or did what you were required to do.

happy to chat on the phone, or send you some of my old DA's/ sound management plans and/ or point you in the direction of some firms i know who have worked on venues etc (but thats an expensive road to take)
