Right so I built this tiny weeny studio in my house
For me to work in on the nights I am home looking after my kids

As with any studio i build the prime question to be addressed
1 Are what's it for .. Really and truely
2 Where are you going to put it ?
3 how much money do you have to do it

My answers to my self are

1. Doing the things I need to do at work that don't really make any money
But are either fun or time intensive

( eg songwriting , cleaning and prepping mixes , downloading and uploading
4-10 gig of masters a week ) and I wanted a microphone work desk
That I could restore and rescue old microphones with that had
Natural light coming in so I can see !!

2 .it had to go in my house and look like it belonged there

3. None money none space
Its 1.65 meters wide and 3.3 long
Its cost 3 grand so far .

Next step is a trip to ikea to find some space saving shelves so I can
Mount the mac minis in reach ( for USB n dongle swaps)
But out of the way
And then to find some radio station type wall mounted
Boom stand that I can trust on old mics , hang some guitars
And stick a microphone work desk by the window in the back
It's like a game of Sudoko in here
Sounds good as well bonus !!
I'll tune it a bit more when I get it fashioned as a working thing
It's too small to know what to do untill it's finished

May I ask... why two mac minis?

One runs Mac OS protools native hd /maschine / web stuff
One runs windows sadie native and lets me deal with the world of
Windows downloads / uploads remote server entry etc that most of the labels
Run on ..You just can't deal with all that on one computer at once switch from one is to the other
Its a drag and doesn't work

Mac minus cos they are small and quiet have thunderbolt
And umm quiet .. I don't care how much I have to pay for quiet
Computers .. But I'll hand it over from now on

Can you mount the macs under the desk?

I'm curious about that room ratio, its not been problematic?

If the 2 x monitors / 2 x KBs / 2 x mouse becomes a drag a KVM switch can give you more real estate - I have an iO brand one that has the same footprint as a Mac Mini and has worked faultlessly for 3 years now.

I use both puters at the same time ,
I am done with switches but thanks

Knee space and getting to the puters will be the challenge

Angled roof , rpg diffusers custom paneling
And who is kidding who its tiny and tiny rooms
Are boom rooms but it's not particularly soundproof
So the roof cavity is a huge bass treatment zone
It's bound to sound shit outside the listening zone
That's ok there won't be room to sit outside the
Zone and its a freakin home studio anyway

Sounds pretty ok right now though

Oh if you find something, let me know! I've been looking for something to hang off a desk, and be able to position it for seated position or standing!

one is the full big server one ( big as they come ) one is as little as they come ( tools gets the big one )

Looks great and is a great inspiration for us "not enough space" folk..

just got the puter and protools 19" racks in from bolivia or china or wherever they make classy steel wall mounted powdercoared 19" racks for $2 a pop

maybe after the weekend i'll post up the results .. but there are a few more things crammed in there now

god its hard NOT putting stuff in a studio

but its surprisingly workable and ergonomic so far .. but i guess you just sit at a console and stare at the extra space or have other people stand in it while your sitting at the console.. well i just dont have any space to stare at ..but there is plenty of room to sit play and sing .

Worlds smallest studio update

I have been working away in here when I get the chance
cramming stuff in taking stuff out . Checking things writing songs , uploading and downloading jobs
While the kids sleep

The room works great for a home thing , no so much with the front mic is a still a work in progress .
Some times I love it but sometimes I get so tired of looking for ancient restoration parts in countries I have never been to in languages I cannot speak .

But it's a good room for it all the same

Gee Rick. Before I clicked on that photo and saw the full-sized version, I thought it's so small, you're having to hang stuff off the ceiling.

Thing is I F@#$ing love this studio
.. Can't figure it out , its so small and I don't care a hoot
It's probably good for my soul because it doesn't cost me money I dont have
to sit and make music in it and it sounds and works great
It defies logic or I am a self professed studio shrinking genuis
