Advice requested...

What do you think is important in the modern studio to interconnect between recording areas and control room areas? xlr i/o obviously but ethernet, optical, usb, coax??? Considering the ubiquitousness of wireless.

My initial thought is "D" footprint connectors, for all sockets and leave a few open for expansion. Pick the amount of xlr i/o needed and then two ethernet and done. Thoughts?

Run plenty of ethernet. It's nice and cheap and you can convert to all kinds of things with boxes at each end.

Also maybe HDMI if you imagine ever doing ADR type work or wanting to set up a screen in the recording space.

Proper coaxial guitar cable with TS at each is good for tie lines. Speaker cable terminated on TS for running heads in control room/cabinet in live space.

Neutrik combo Speakon/TS jacks are handy for speaker interconnections. It makes them hard to confuse with guitar lines!

In a modern studio Ethernet everywhere.

Definitely a couple of speaker tie-lines for running heads in control rooms and cabs in live rooms/ booths. Use speakon and and have some adaptoing cables handy.

Some TRS sockets for the cans...?

Thanks for the suggestions guys, it's basically what I had in mind. In regards to the ethernet connectors what should I be using? I'm a bit confused with all the different neutrik ones cat5, cat5e, cat6 etc. Will want to do a hardline to the network and possibly use a hearback headphone system which uses ethernet cable. Tips?

Myles, I'd also add a midi in /out or USB to the wall plate. Capturing the event data as well as the stereo outputs of the keyboard/synths can make edits a whole lot easier! A lot of older synths/keys won't have the USB, so I'd do both midi ports, plus the USB (be handy for other things too, charging devices/computer/printer connections etc...)

(not that I think drinking is a great studio asset.. )
