Blessed TRF Gurus,

I have a motu 2408 mk3 and pci 424 card (rev 3) interfacing my whole setup. I got the card yesterday and since setting it up the interface is registering a bunch of shitty noise, clicks, pops etc on the outputs even when no audio is being run.
I've changed the firewire cable, have tried all the ports on the card and tried a different pci slot on the motherboard yet the problem remains.

has anyone had any issues with this and found a resolution? Im running windows 8.1.

Motu windoze drivers were never good....

Maybe join motunation.com and look around or ask for answers...

Is the word clock set to internal?

yeah internal pci424 in the motu control panel

I have found if I use a firewire cable from the local computer store it doesn't cut it, I get snap, crackle and pop. Whereas the cable that came with the interface from Motu is as clean as a whistle.

My understanding is that the MOTU cable is significantly different from a standard firewire cable, not sure in what aspects, but I do recall reading about it on a MOTU or MOTU users site.

Never had issues with MOTU drivers under Windows...Used them for about 6-7 years.
I did have the original motu FW (or Audiowire, as they call it) cable in the setup, but never thought it was any different to a standard FW cable, but it's certainly worth trying as noted above.

In the early days of FireWire, the chipset type on your card was important.
I believe Texas Instruments (TI) chipsets were the preferred option.

This may be a factor.

Yes, the chipset was always a talking point with MOTU issues. Mine was Intel 975..never had any problems with MOTU, Apogee or RME.
