Acoustic mics?

Just wondering what people's go to mics are for acoustic.

I am absolutely loving Brauner Valvet and Neumann KM56 on acoustic at the moment.

I have also heard good things with DPA 4090, and AKG 214.

I am not looking the audio geek in me likes to test new mics and ideas on a regular basis. I also dont want to just use the same things every time I record,

Thoughts?

Schoeps CMC5 with Mk4 capsule is stunning. I also love my AKG 414eb on acoustic instruments.

It does depend a bit on the guitar. For my F Hole Maton a dynamic mic like an older SM 56 or AKG D19 or a Royer / ACM ribbon mic are the ones that I use. For Martin's, and my Guild, for brighter top end it will be a Neumann U87 or for smoother it will be Neumann KM 85 or AKG 451 EB. Rode Classic 11 is also great on Dreadnought acoustics.

I'm with Jim, mostly using schoeps cmc5 with an MK4, through a V72, sounds amazing.
For a rocky rhythm part though a 57 through a 1073 is pretty cool.

Ev Re 10, Neumann KM85, Beyer M160 or Sony C38b.
Like just about every other thing I mic up!

Ironic but tracking acoustic guitar atm!

2x Beez Neez LuLu's with a Neumann KM81r shotgun over the shoulder to grab some of the 'zing'.

Man! I can't afford any of those. Guess I have to fall back to the old AKG C460s! But maybe I'm just being sentimental because they're the first mics I bought.

Nothing wrong with C460s.

^ you could always put a wig and makeup on fritz and turn him into fräulein...for a change.. The only transgender microphone :)

My mics for acoustic have changed over time.
I'm on Milabs now but KM85, KM84, Gefell Um70, akg 451, sm57, U87, AEA R84, KM88 have all had a go in the past.

At least Fritz has ears. The Sennheiser equivalent doesn't!

they are omnis.

the newer ku100's also have circuitry built in so the stereo image works well on speakers as well as headphones. the phase is perfect always.

not sure what's going on, but it's the best stereo mic by a long stretch. with headphones you can get a sense of front/back AND high/low. and on drums, you get an amazing amount of low end which you just wouldn't expect.

interestingly sennheiser own neumann, so really your buying a sennheiser/neumann ku100. they are expensive but honestly, well worth the bucks.

........it goes without saying that a good preamp brings the best out whichever mic you are liking, and I really like the silver optro's at the moment with a touch of their soft compression.

Omnis,, interesting. Time for some research.
I might take you up on that offer Rick, for studio use I'd say,
I think Fritz would distract the audience in a live recording,,you know cause he's so good looking.
