I know you already have one but for those who might be looking. I was at Dan Murphys liquer barn and they sell single wooden boxes for $12 or a double for $20. YOu can even buy a wooden crate that holds 12 bottles of wine for $20. They were made out of pine sides and MDF bottoms and slide top lids.

Well, my extra pair KM85s arrived yesterday.
Both pairs of to Gunter on Monday next week :-)
They'll be rockin' when they come back!!

Well, I spent a few days at my folks place and a day with some woodworking tools, some wood stain and some Estapol clear lacquer.. as well as some Baize, foam and some contact adhesive spray..
Here are the results for my box for my Neumann KM85s.. yes, I made it all, green bits and all.
Genuine 1970's maple (from my dad's supply of old timber and bits), an original clasp lock and some brass hinges and screws.. and the baize material was some stuff my mum had for 30yrs..




There is another box to the R) of the lower picture for the other pair of KM85 I'm selling - yes, box will come with the mics too..
I'm pretty happy..

If I were the size of a Neumann microphone I'd be happy to be laid to rest in one of your boxes :)

Does it move around though inside, the insulation you got inside doesn't look like its that deep? Its good that you left a gap inside though, you can place those moisture absorber packs in there.

John, there is foam in the lid and the base section (double in the base section i.e 22mm, so it brings the mics up to the right height) and wrapped in the baize material.
As you can see, there are indentations in the foam in the lid, where the mics are pressed up against the foam, keeping them quite secure without any movement..

tim , you might want to check if the material in side the case you used breaks down under pressure.
i relined a mic box once and 6 months later it was leaving tiny hairs all over the capsule
gunter redid it for me with the right material and made me feel like a right dill

Thanks for the advice Rick.
The foam is non-degradable and used widely in physiotherapy and in splints (I get it from work)
Its covered in baize material which has been stuck (contact spray) to the foam.
However, I'll keep it in mind..

I think the use of that handle just added AUS$15 to the price of freight to overseas. Makes packing a bit bulky. And I stack my mics away in case when I dont use them so it could hinder stackability if that was a concern. Cant see it being a deal breaker though.

Hmm, optimism Dale!!!
I'm keeping the box (with handle) for my own KM85s - I have another without a handle for the mics for sale!!
