I actually own one of these shockmounts, and it is well made, perfectly adequate for holding the $2K+ mic I have in it. I would not have drawn it to Gigpiglet's attention otherwise.

To trash something you have not tried just because it is cheap smacks of elitism. One of the many reasons I value Turtlerock over opinion sites like GearSlutz is because of real world experience.

The Neumann ones are made in German, pretty sure there is more than $30 in labour and material.

Elitism? Maybe. But I I'm not a tight arse going to buy the cheapest option around. I'm happy to spend $300 to suspend a mic worth 10x what its mount is worth. The mic screw thread is worth it for the price alone.

Well if you have one to sell to gigpiglet for $300, I'm sure he'd love to hear it. Remember this is what the post is about.

And again, if you have no experience with the screw thread on the referenced shockmount then you are simply making assumptions drawn from price.

I have 4 of the Neumann ones for my U87s and U67s and the screw thread is an extra boost of confidence that the shock mount will not be dropping one of my mics.

I actually sent a text when I saw the post letting him know the best new price and where to get them from for that price OS. I have no idea what they retail for in Australia.

It doesn't take a tight arse to know the difference between paying for quality versus when a company is just trying to fleece you.

Whatever they cost to make, the Neumann shock mounts are obscenely overpriced. But if you've never bothered to even check out the cheaper options, I suppose you can't be expected to know that.

I've been down the whole generic microphone mount years ago and got bored pretty quick with the options that were available. The ISK ones are akin to the POS ones that AKG supply as their premium microphone mount which I quickly swapped out for the Peluso manufactured equivalent.

also looking at the beezneez one which looks like it might be the best "middle ground"

Best general purpose shockmount I've ever used.

Not sure if my 5 year old Beesneez Arabella Pro's mount is the type you are looking at but it's very average Chinese Generic and can't hold the heavy mic in place - maybe Ben's got something better these days.

as if its a couple of hundred bucks and still average.... that would be disappointing and id love to know in advance!

Hey Gareth, the 2 clips don't really hold the mic securely as well as the bolt not holding he weight.

Wow, pretty much a rip off of the Neumann one without the mic base thread

I tend to buy neumann shock mounts , because they look right , feel right and work right .
that said I don't buy the new screw bottom factory ones because they are no better then the garbage that you can buy for 99 bucks .

I can't tell you how many old parts shock mounts i have bought , but lots and lots , there is a remarkable difference
in the quality of shock mounts available ,most of which look right and are in fact made of some bizarre not suitable for sticking on mic stand kind of metal , that shit strips and messes with your mind within the first month you get the mount .

gig piglet i have some u87 swivel tuchal mounts here somewhere .
which is way cooler then you were wanting but not a shock .
