Greetings,
Just wondering if anyone by chance has a circuit or a manual for a JNS ML8014 preamp typically used in the broadcast industry in the 1990s. I have a number of modules I would like to bring into service. Even a phone pic of the circuit would suffice so I could thereafter build a PSU to match. Not certain what the power rail is..?
My next query is even more of a long shot..just in the remotest case that someone has a junked STC4033 mic or parts thereof. I have quite a nice specimen but he dynamic element (very sim to the 4021) is missing - the ribbon section is ok however.
Cheers,
Stephen

Hi Stephen,
Can't imagine that anybody has a 4033a lying about unloved but if you need a dynamic element and it's similar to the sennheiser 421, sennheiser made a LOT of dynamic mic models and many have excellent elements very similar to the 421 and the 409 including some omni capsules. Maybe you could substitute something? I know that it won't be "the same" as the 4033 but it'll probably achieve the same function in that it'll give you a cardioid polar pattern when combined with the ribbon? I imagine exact placement will matter for phase coherency.
I do have a 4033a that you are welcome to borrow to compare the sonics.

Thanks Myles,
I appreciate your return and the possibility of adopting an old Sennheiser element is an interesting idea. I do have a couple of MD403s kicking around including a wreck so it may be worth a try. The only thing is that the original dynamic element in the 4033a was just 30ohms and at a glance looks almost identical to a 4021 (apple and biscuit) mic but slightly squat so to fit into a small space partially under the ribbon assembly. The Sennheisers are more likely to be 150 or 600ohms but I will check. I appreciate your offer to compare and will see how the project eventuates.
I wonder anyone had success with Fetheads or Cloudlifters with older dynamic mics such as the 4021 which need a lot of gain?
Cheers,
Stephen

I used the Byer tape recorder mic preamp for my STC 4033 as it was +8 output. That and the AWA remote broadcast preamp with germanium transistors had plenty of gain. When needed i would use an inline pad on the output.

Thanks Chris,
That is a great idea - if I cant find a dynamic element for the 4033 I may just use the ribbon functionality. I do notice however that the ribbon output is extremely low so I may have to check things further - Cheers, Stephen

I had an STC 4033 in great condition. Still regretting i sold it. I used it mostly on ribbon only but having omni and cardioid options was really handy as each had its colour to match the mic to the voice. It was great on double bass as well.

Hmm.. strange that the omni section of the mic should stop working.. I wonder if it could be just a wiring issue at the back terminal?
I also may have some info on the JNS system.. have to check my manuals.
I have a couple of the remote (VCA controlled) amps in a 2x module rack from that system.

This may help you, I believe the Altec and the STC were brothers.
