Geez.........how many Warwicks did you own? :-)


I've got a mate's 6 string neck thru Thumb and Kubicki Factor here on a long term baby sitting arrangement as he's not using them these days..great basses.

I still have more.

couple more Warwick's 5 strings.
I have the 1972 JAzz up for sale. Its on consignment for $6000 but I am only looking for $4000 so if anyones interested give us ahoy.
Also another Warwick is up for sale after this one as I am looking to find a nice buss compressor. Anyone used the Chamelon labs 7622 thingy or make an suggestions or trades?

Rant mode on...

About the Chameleon thing...i am also in the market for a buss comp...but from everything i've read on GS and around ..it is a great drum compressor. but not entirely great as a buss comp.
I think I will go the Smart C2..but the API 2500 is meant to be pretty good as well.

BTW there is a thread on GS with audio clips of every SSL type, duende, impact, C2. C1 GF 384, liquid mix, waves, urs...and most people didn't even pick the SSL or the Smart..but the URS !!
(maybe their testing is flawed....a lot of people picked impact !!(which i have)

What we need in australia is a MI shop that is prepared to do sale or return on these types of things so we can try them ! (if anyone knows of one please let me know)

What about that Fairlight offer(lend you $25 grand of gear for 30 days)..thats the way to market a product against PT..and they have dumbed it down to only 96 tracks !!

I know one studio on the Sunshine coast that bought a modded JLM Chamelon compressor and he loves the thing.

I am in the market for a better 5 string bass than the $600 one that I have. I am after a bass that does not have so many tuning problems.

Hey Jason - I bought one of Dale's 5-string Warwicks a while back (Corvette Bubinga) - been a wonderful instrument to play on. The tuning and intonation all the way up the fretboard is a joy. Good luck in your hunt - Dale takes care of his guitars!

What do you think of the G&L L2500? I have one but I have never gotten around to using it so far....

I bought this straight from the factory back in was it 1998 ish.
Extremely heavy bass ( I guess that is swamp ash for you).
I was told that the swamp ash trees are grown in the swamp and only the timber that is submersed is the good stuff. Not too sure about that story.
Great punchy sound, never used it for recording as I had a G&L SB2 at the time I was using more. I could not belive what a great sound the SB2 had with no special preamps just plugged straight into the ROalnd VS880. Of which I still own 2 of them (hope they still work). The G&L2500 has not been used for about 5 years and I pulled it out on the weekend and it needs some electrical work done maybe a new input jack as well. Still looks brand new and I love the action and power. IT is definitely a nice live bass when it has all its noise problems sorted out I will try it for a recording bass. I have been using the Lakland a lot lately and I really do love them. The lower B string just has a real punch to definition to it I dont know if its the Bartolinis but is a good combination.
I have owned a few G&L's. Bright yellow SC3, ASAT classsic, LEo signature series ASAT, SB2, but I hae never played a Tribute series. What are they like?
Its a shame that both the brands G&L and Lakland dont get the respect they deserve in Australia.

I know what you mean, they seem to be considered low end because of the "Tribute" series. I have spent time at the G&L factory, I have had to drive down there when I was living in LA working on the Rockstar TV show. The band I work for are G&L endorsees. There is a door at the end of the factory with a sign saying "Laboratory, MR Fender Only" Gene the foreman unlocked it and took me through it, it is left untouched since the day Mr. Fender died. The big CNC machine that cuts the bodies was the only automated thing that I saw in the entire factory, everything else is done by hand, some of the equipment looks so old and handmade, particularly the benches that cut the fret slots in the neck. Saw people (including Gene's mum) hand winding pickups. Definitely pure old school American made, from start to finish. I think Gene has moved into a design role now, he is incredibly passionate about his work there.
