The problem I think is that these machines only run at 7 1/2 inches per second and 3 3/4 so they are not really suitable for mastering machines.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, I was given a Revox and I have the same problem, the wrong model, and it's a bit of a pisser.

I have Sony TC 200 1/4" machine also. It only runs on 7&1/2 ips and 3&3/4 ips.
I was hoping to use it to record to tape (eventually).
My dad bought it new in China in 1965. Still in good working order, although I need some new 1/4" tape..

Could You double the size of the pulleys on the motors (or halve the size of the other end) to take you up to 15ips?

I gave my machine to Howard Jones, he had a look at modding it to 15 ips but said it was not worth the trouble. So i think that's the story with Revox.
Speaking of Little Howie, anyone going to see him on Friday night, it's the electric show but with the new big Roland
not the old Roland, Moog and Yamaha synths of old. Oh well!!

this unit has history......

it was owned by bill rowe, Australia's first real tour manager. he used it for live recording of a few local bands he worked with. billy thorpe, max merrit, axiom/spectrum/brian cadd etc etc.. you get the picture.

anyway he was anal with his gear. it is still in its original custom road case and looks like new, seriously. it does power up. i dont have any tape, so i havent tested it. i do know it was serviced and put away in about 1999 ish.

To Mod the revox for 7 1/2 --15 ips the big thing you need is a different capstan shaft in the motor. All revox and Studer are direct drive , even the cassette decks (Amazing mech !! 4 motor direct drive electronic braking).You then change the eq constants for playback and a few bits on the record cards.
Not a hard job , but the capstan is the main thing. I have capstan shafts available if anyone wants one.
Be warned , there are a bunch of dos and don't with revox/studer capstan shafts too. and they have different bearing surface sizes for front and rear bearings with numbers written on the shaft and must be withdrawn from the front of the motor and inserted from the rear, then you need the right oil etc etc etc.....

im learning more about what this unit is.

its a like a cassette deck, 2 tracks one way, flip the tape, then another 2 tracks. (doesnt record or play 4 tracks at once)

its also the slower unit (doesnt do 15ips)

1/4 Track domestic machine. You'd really want 1/2 Track heads to go to 7 1/2 --15 ips also the A77 were all NAB EQ for record and playback although they could playback IEC /CCIR tapes . Flux level will be 257nW.

The only Revox machine with IEC eq for recording standard was the C270 series. It used a DC Capstan like the A820 and A812 Studers. Nice fast start. You could get IEC cards for a PR99 or B77 or Mod them. Or look out for a A810 or B67
The ABC bought 2 containers full of B67 Studers for theComm Games years ago and there are still heaps floating around .
Mostly 3 Speed machines some stereo, some Full track mono some playback ony.

avoid the playback only ones though as they have a "minimal" wiring loom and a bugger to add record bits to.
