MATCHED pair of Neumann KM85i cardioid studio microphones - $2200

Taken from my matched QUAD set, up for sale is a MATCHED pair of Neumann KM85i cardioid studio microphones (Serial numbers: #35323 and #45529) and a hand-made vintage wooden case – genuine 1970’s maple. The wooden case is optional if you only prefer the microphones – there is no price difference, except on the overall shipping price.

The complete QUAD set have just been fully restored and serviced by Gunter Wagner (of Wagner Microphones) here in Sydney, Australia.

From Gunter; “I have now completed work on your 4x KM85 microphones. As mentioned in our telephone conversation, the four capsules perform nearly identical, so to match all four mics I only had to slightly tweak the internal amps. Also I re-biased the FET's of all four microphones to get maximum headroom.
You can now use all mics as a fully matched group of four. Best matched pair is #35323 and #45529, but the differences to the other two mics are only marginal as you can see in the attached spectrum plot. Overall output level differences between all four mics are less than 1dB.â€

How much just for that sexy looking wooden box?

Yes lets talk about the box. The timber, if it is maple, looks like Queensland Maple as opposed to the US Rock Maple of Fender neck fame. Queensland Maple is a great tone wood and Maton used it on their Premier model F holed guitars as well as other models. However it is a bit weak along the grain.
With that foam in the lid it reminds me of an old sharpening stone box i have :)

These are great mics Tim, you should have no problem moving them. I'd go for them but i'm looking for a large diaphragm mic.

Have to agree they are great mics and very handy to have. I 've had a pair for a few years now and use them on stringed instruments
snare, etc. I have even used them for vocals. where they suited. They have a HPF built into the design of the diaphram ( not electronics ) and this makes them ideal for recording in a live situation where you want to avoid the build up of lows.

well done on the sale , it seems like it was a great result for you, congrats.

I didn't buy them as I already have a pair and several km84's, but the person who did, did so on my strong recommendation. he has a studio in the same building as mine as is starting to build up his mic collection.

I know how great these are and while there are many other SDC mics that are also great, a pair of real vintage neumanns will always be something to be prized, and will be used on just about every session.

The 4 mics are perfectly matched by Gunter and will make a fine addtition to a mic locker.
I have obviously kept a pair for myself as well - I didnt need 4..
These really are lovely microphones..
