I bought this off ChrisP on these forums a while ago. I couldn't get it to work properly with my computer (playback kept dropping out), apparently MOTU gear likes Intel chipsets (mine's ATI, had a 2408 ages ago which didn't work with my VIA chipset at the time).

I bought a Texas Instruments based firewire card (it needs TI for the software to recognise the unit) which I'll chuck in with it.
Good for someone with a Pentium or Mac. I think you'll struggle if you have an AMD.

Now that I've put you off, looking for what I got it for, with a free Firewire card!

Ahh, memories

I recorded so many albums with this unit, and unlike Kurt never had any issues (I run Mac computers w/Logic DAW). Does 24 bit word lengths and samples rates up to 96 if I remember rightly, though I pretty much ran it at 24/44.1. Its clean enough for its vintage, but of course doesn't compete with my current modern Apogees.

Isn't there someone looking for a converter elsewhere in the forums?

I used it on a mac, and then it stopped working, think it had something to do with firewire being used by the mac for networking, disabled that, and it worked again, but I eventually sold it on ebay. Cant remember how much I sold it for, but it was definately between $200-$300.

Talk about crappy timing...........job uncertainty (I'm unemployed, probably only temporarily as of Friday) means I can't risk spending at the moment. I don't normally record ITB but occasionally it would be handy to be able to transfer multiple tracks from my recorders to the PC and back again.

If you are a Vintage synth lover and cannot get enough of CV/Gate and you also have Mac,
you might consider buying the 828 to run VOLTA which is MOTU's CPU driven CV/Gate interface.

It is supposed to be excellent and accurate, although I have never tried it, I have heard some results.

The 828 is a perfect interface for the VOLTA environment! There is also "expert sleepers" one which might also be
helpful to some of you.

I have an 828 I was going to sell, but I have decided to keep it pending future VOLTA needs.
