Ok I'm putting it out there, I'm in the market for a top end mic specifically for vocals, Budget is around 4k but will go higher if needed. :D

Anything with rode or modern Neumann badge NOT wanted, but Bock, brauner and geffel, welcome.

What do you have?

Go for a BeesNeez mic you won't regret it. I have the Jade and am now buying a Sally or James, should buy both.

To be honest I'd go a Bock 251, after hearing Pete's E251 it is the mic I want/need/crave. Just has a sound which would probably work with nearly any vocalist or instrument.

There is a Brauner Valvet at Mixmasters for $3850. That would be a great option for you.

I bought a Beesneez James and could not be happier.

I have a Brauner Valvet, great mic but not a goto all the time for vocals. The Valvet is very accurate so it picks up everything, which could be great or a bad thing.
I also have a Neumann U87 for general purpose use. With a Neve sounding pre it can sound very good on vocals.
My BeesNeez Jade is my goto mic for vocals ( very musical, forgiving and coloured), great on rock and RnB using an ordinary pre. Even better on a Neve coloured pre.
I really can't believe how cheap the BeesNeez mics are, but I don't think this will last as the world is catching on how great these mics are.

P.P.S. If you found a U67 it would also cost you about $7k

I've been looking and $7kUS is the ballpark for U67, now looking at other options.

What other options are you looking at Barney?

I really dig gefell's and though I haven't heard their recent tube offerings I'd love to...maybe you should buy it and loan it to me so that I can also decide to buy it!

Barney, with the combination of patience and our rising dollar,your wallet will take less of a hit than you've concluded.If its the U67 sound that you're after,stay on course.

A favourable benefit of this vintage mic is: Capsules are still offered from Neumann and tubes are easily available.Stress-less upkeep,a big plus!

It will be more than you've budgeted though.

you can buy the real thing ( a 1960s neumann um57 for $2.5k ) on ebay right now which seems a whole better deal to me
factor in a new tube and a reskin at some point ( $400) at it sets your 4k price alight me thinks and you have something your going to want to keep

I'm not in a hurry, but am looking at the Lucas CS 1 (well on a waiting list). And am interested in the beezneez line. Or maybe a sibling for my CMV 563 would make a nice pair.

When Gunter Wagner makes a U47 you are buying the real deal. It's like buying a new U47 right down to same metals used during the original built.
I would say the price would be minimum high US$6k maybe even US$8k. Especially now Gunter may not make them anymore due to the lack of materials.
