And here we have one of my sleeping goodies. Its a 4 channel mic preamp which is 4 Altec 1588c modules racked and powered with 48v Phantom, Pad and variable gain on each channel.

These units are excellent. They are 70's discrete 3 transistor mic pre's with inout transformer running on +20v and pushing 34.5db into a 600ohm load with a max of 17dbm and the source load is 150-250ohms. Each module is individually screened and I recapped them all a year ago or so. They'll happily drive an output transformer directly from the module and the last two channels have holes drilled in the chassis as I had some tamura transformers in there at one stage. They are all currently quasi balanced as per Joe Malones suggestion and also have aunbalanced jack outout. I have to say that these really do sound excellent, they can be found all over my jazz recordings as they are very clean with a wide frequency band and nice dynamics.

The power supply is a JLM ac/dc kit with a 30va tx, the case is an elgee with xlr i/o and the jacks carrying unbalanced outs and IEC power. All signals are carried on silver plated, teflon coated oxygen-free copper (hows that Rick?). Star ground configuration and all switches are sealed gold plated. The wiring is a little untidy but there are no hums or buzzes and all signal cables are tightly twisted.

I've used it regularly since 2004 on sources as wide ranging as Jazz, alt.rock, avant garde, classical piano, voice, drums, room mics, stereo recordings etc. Never had an issue with gain on either dynamics or condensers and used it two days ago on a straight to stereo recording with a pair of gefell omnis. Its obviously no gain monster but for most applications it'll be fine. Only reason I'm selling is I have another set and I've got some racking projects to pay for.

offers over $500 to my inbox...

not to hijack the thread Myles, but I'm cashed out, even though I'd love some 70's gear - would be nice.
I just bought some SSL EQ modules for racking.. which along with my Byer 66 which still needs some love from Rob..
I should have waited on the SSL's - the AU$ is at like 92cents and climbing!!!
