yea, I saw the one in sydney this morning (Got up early to bid, but it was already +$800), and I see the one in Japan..
I was just wishing for something ever so slightly cheaper.. you never know..

I wouldn't be surprised if that was a price bump.. they regularly go for a bit less than that.

Whats the estimated price for it?

not sure. I was originally looking at the full build (with the tau boards which make it much more than a dim d...) and that was looking like $600 or so I think.

I think just a dim d configuration would be a lot less..

come to think of it, I have to see if there's still PCBs available.

and may be easier to find. Apparently Beh#### has cloned the Boss pedal (surprise!) and it sounds pretty good.

The UAD-1 and 2 have an excellent emulation of the Roland Dimension D. You could put one on every channel. ;-)

I've heard software emulation is good (As well as the Line 6 pedals) but I prefer hardware, and something that holds it's value in the long term.

Shows a stereo out on the Dimension C pedal.

Dimension D were like a really subtle chorus. Another way would be to run a 30-50ms DDL echo with limited mod and feedback until it finds "the sweet spot". The SDE-1000 I have here produces a really similar effect on keys to the Dimension D when set up this way.

Mono in of course, but apparently (sorry, I forget where I read this) can be modified to accept stereo in, like the "D", due to it's similarities with it's rack cousin.

Aficionados claim some of the magic is in the companding circuit with these units, which would be trickier to emulate.

Dim D's are hard to emulate with delays or choruses. There is something about the way they fold into mono that is excellent.
Now, I hardly ever say something like this, but I have the UAD plugin and have put it side by side with a mint hardware Dim D. It is incredibly close, the main difference was the noise from the hardware. I say this with a grain of salt, I am a hardware guy, but that plugin is pretty awesome. No good for live, but in a mix it rocks on vocals and guitars etc. and does all buttons mode.

I Have a Dimension C, and the UAD plugin.
I had an SDD-320 but I sold it when I needed some money.
They all sound similar, the real DIM D was more organic/analog sounding though, I thought.
not so noticeable in a mix..
the plugin is enormously useful because you can patch it several times in sublte ways for really lovely effects, particulary when applied to reverb and effects sends.
I want to ditch the UAD to go native, and to a new iMac, but the Dim D plugin is so essential to me I can't for now..
I really hope UAD go firewire.. or just go to a dongle type processor, like SSL have with Duende.

There is one here and not that badly priced either.

Took hold my my shiny Dim D yesterday, and had a real good play with it today.. awesome! It's in brilliant condition. A1.

So subtle, so spacious & open.

It's hard to know what it's doing, until you bypass it.. then you go.. ahhh.. thats whats missing.

What kind of sourcesare you puttingthrough it? I use it for a couple of digital synths and the Jupiter 6 sounds amazing through it - in a mono split to lush

I like settings I & II mostly.

At the moment, I've trying it on quite a few things, but the P5 sounds wicked, as does the SID synth..

The prophet through it just makes me drool.

Having now owned a Dim D for nearly a year and constantly useing it.. I'd pretty much say it's good for anything and everything.. lol.

That plugin demo does sound pretty legit on my crappy laptop speakers however.
(I must say, that my laptop speakers do have the 'JBL-Pro' badge underneath them, so are probably better than most studio monitors )

I have one of these. I really like it. When I first got it, it was like I couldn't really hear the effect,
but if I defeat it, the sound doesn't have the same life in it. I am currently running a Kawai K1 through,
which really makes those grainy string patches come alive. I ran a couple of other poly synths through
it but for some reason, I like the digital/analogue blend....
