looks like a guy you can trust

So is it about a studio or the guy that writes books? And how do you build a studio on top of a helipad.? How does the helicopter land now? And why is it important to note he has a "private" helipad? What does that have to do with audio? Wouldn't it have been better to profile the studio instead of the guy bank rolling it? I don't care how many books he's written. Who designed the rooms? What are they made of? Equipped with? Glaring omissions from a press release supposedly designed to tell you about a place that makes music. It's all about the guy... and his dreams and... ego.

Just an interesting question. I see that you support other people like Joe and Ben and have links at the bottom of your posts so how come there are no info@heliportstudios.com. at the bottom of your posts at a place that you have been so involved with?

I met this guy (Allan Pease) about 30 years ago - he wrote books on Body Language if I recall right .......

Do you mean to say that I would have to walk up hill from the helipad to get to the studio? Time to commission the Funicular.

"the duality" is that some big rap group i havent heard of :)

I think everyone is missing the point... this press release IS written with the facility's customer in mind - the guy who bankrolls it IS the main customer! All this won't be paid for by external bookings!! so in this case it makes sense for the people writing the press release to butter up that one customer as good as they can.

I dunno about the heliport though.... I'd prefer my million $$ studio built on a secret submarine base.

I'm really happy for Allan who has a shiny new toy, but when I got to "I booked my ticket to Woodstock in 1969", I found that really hard to believe. And although I am just a cynical old man I'm lead to believe that hardly anybody bought a ticket to Woodstock, that was the problem. Talk about a mendacious and self sanctifying press release!
Now pass me a self help book.

Guys guys, its Christmas time already.

OK, so Angus' boss's press release reads like a blend of self-aggrandisement and wishful thinking, and his photo does make him look extraordinarily like someone you'd expect to see featured on A Current Affair. But he's decided to go for his dream, and I for one am happy for him. An SSL Duality doesn't push my buttons, but if that's his thrill and he can afford it, good luck to him. May it be everything he wants from it. And still be so in 12 months time. I also think its nice to see a studio opening, rather than closing (although a comment from another thread about viable studios being those run by rich people from their own property does echo a certain bit).

I'm just not sure this story is worth the emotional energy is getting.

Angus, hope it all goes well. For the rest of us, what's the bet that no-one steals the image from THAT document to paste up as their own.

Come on guys where's the spirit, why not welcome Alan with open arms? Surely this isn't a case of good o'l Aussie tall poppy syndrome!!
Surely anyone with an avid passion for music and recording would be welcomed with open arms, money or no money? Why cast judgement over a few photo's? Maybe the speil should of had a title 'About the Owner'
I work in disabilities to make money to buy audio gear, I've been playng music for 17years, studied music, toured os etc, Does working a job outside of music make me less of a muso/ audio enthusiast?

I'm possibly piggy backing on the last two posts, but when I read the OP I had a funny combination of mixed feelings (and metaphors, for that matter).

The only differences between that dude and me is the size of the bank balance, the number of grey hairs and the amount of time put into practising the smile. Give me another 20 years and some unlikely, but planned for, business success, and I will basically be a blues rock kid who went corporate to put bread on the table and ended up wealthy enough to build whatever studio it is I bloody well want. Which seems to basically be this bloke. And I know there's nothing cool about being that bloke.

Right now I tinker away with the Lab open on my computer and a soldering iron in my hand, so I can build my own slice of self-recording heaven at a price I can handle, which is not a lot. And I've never heard a negative word spoken against me for basically being just another lawyer pretending to be a muso - to the contrary I've got some great support and contribution from the locals here (though I don't exactly post to often). I try to be careful not to overstep the boundaries and listen more than I speak. There's a lot to be learned.

But should I end up being in a position to live the dream - well, I'll be exactly the same guy I am now, just with the capital that is currently a pipe dream. What do they call it - a vanity studio? Is that what this guy is? Will I basically be him? Will I cop flak for being another white collar spiv apparently just buying what everyone else has to hard for (lol) or will people go "hey, that's pretty cool you're getting what you always wanted, good luck to ya?"

So good luck to you Angus, sounds like a great facility and a great place to record. The biggest risk I can see is that I'm always nervous when rich people decide to make a business out of a hobby - quite often they don't get involved in the way they should, and with their hands off the steering wheel things go awry and eventually they just write the whole thing off as a dead loss and can the whole thing. Which might be a great time for a management buy out :) Personally, I reckon it would be fun to drive the Starship SSL Enterprise, so why not?

Quite some news. Been busy round here while Iv'e been out. Nothing for me to add.......a lot has already been said. Hope all works out well for you Angus , and some great music gets recorded. If you and Allan put on your lateral thinking caps some interesting things could happen.

whilst i'm happy for your studio opening (it is always very exciting) i reckon you could do without the wanky press release and douchebag photo.

shameless self-promotion is lame-o.

then again, didn't allan make his fortune from this sort of stuff? so maybe us povo studio knobbers could learn a thing or two from him.
