A courier would be the only way probably. I'd say due to the weight & dimensions it might cost you around $200 smackers from Melbourne > Perth.

The new Rhodes - Awave in Melbourne had (may still have) one. I had a play and it felt/sounded good. All this is very nice, but our man here needs one for under $1500!

oh... they've been out for ages? I've only heard about the mk7s today. I should get my head out of my hasselblad and back into some musical instruments!

I got rid of one a long long time ago and have regretted it... sold it for a lot less than $1500!!! :(

A mate of mine picked one up from the local roadside hard rubbish collection a few months ago. He is doing a bit of work on it to bring it up to good nick. Not much needed doing though.

I'm also looking to get a Mk1 73 stage.

I've got a Wurli that I'm getting tuned / fixed up.. then looking to sell it to fund the rhodes.

BTW...Mine is not for sale at this time.

ive found one real cheap.. but its in peices.. but apparently the're all there.

Reckon i'd need a professional to put it back together or is it something that could be easily done myself.. although time consuming??

hey i've got one of them too! i've even used it live. too cool.

Mine's a bit different, with every button backlit by a lamp and capacitive buttons for start/stop and fill..

My mate calls it the drum machine to use when you are wearing a smokers jacket and smoking a pipe.

Oooooooozeeees class and the spirit of lounge.

They are also great to put on in the background when you bring a lady home to see your etchings.

Good price for now, nice things those Rhodes but big machines.

I have a Piano Bass I am thinking of selling as well.

I think I let someone down on this forum but I had trouble getting a camera and
didn't take any pics so I didn't follow up. But it is still tentatively for sale or trade.

can anyone describe on point me in direction of sound difference between the 73 and the 88 rhodes? I've only ever used a 73

The number of keys is the main thing. Various models all sound different depending on the year and the model of tines they have.
(plus a few other things depending on the model---suitcase etc..)
I have a 73 suitcase and rarely miss the extra keys, but it depends on your playing style etc.

Hmm.maybe. That's one's gonna cost a bit of coin to get up to spec. You could just plug into the pickup if you couldn't be bothered fixing it I guess.. I've recorded mine that way into a di then a pre. Doesn't sound the same though.

The bass rhodes sounds great through an amp sim, like a line 6 something.
You really do need a decent preamp to get the most out of it and
make it "your" sound....

The rhodes bass is very much a one trick pony and you need to tweak
it mechanically to your particular ear, which you would need a an expert to do
and show you the first time. Tonally, the Piano Bass ranges between
bass, Bass and More Bass. The sustain is stunning. The attacks are
real. The decay/stop is a little hard to control. You might need
a compressor as well. In the end, with a DI connection, it's just
a bass but in a keyboard format. 37 notes of it.

There is a guy in the USA who takes Piano Bass and turns them
into a mid-range rhodes, you choose the range...

When you play riffs with the left hand it does make sense. I am pretty
uncoordinated so I can play a walking bass with my left hand and
push a button with my right - I am shameful to admit I cannot play a
bassline and pad out chords at the same time. But the action on the
Piano Bass is brilliant. It will definitely strengthen the hand and
make your fingers into titans, without that horrible ache some keyboards
have. My particular one has a very tight action, but it's not unflexible
so you can gliss around on it without getting blisters etc....

You can tell a loved rhodes by how sloppy the action is - and
some people will hate one particular keyboard and love another....

Tweaking the tone of your Rhodes to your own personal preference is a bit of a lifelong pursuit methinks. Once you start you can't stop and then you can never find your way back to where you started. Then just as you get it where you're happy with it you'll change your mind a pull the top off again. I'm thinking about doing a bit of customizing on mine at some point too, shiny red harp cover, new grill cloth blah blah.
